This TGD turbo is my 6th BX - I have previously driven 2 different 16RSs, a 19 TGD and TXD, and a 19TZi (and taken apart a 19RD for spares over a period of several months). Both the TGD Turbo and TZi arrived courtesy of Tom's generosity and have given me a valuable introduction to the more lively versions of the BX breed. It was owned previously by Paul, to whom I also owe thanks : he had it well looked after mechanically, while using as a vehicle which worked for its living. It's continued to be "well used" since- sometimes its load-carrying capabilities have been too well used! Some day I'll fully empty the back.....

Serendipity smiled on the car in Paul's ownership when it was hit from behind and the rear boot floor had to be replaced by the other party's insurer, thereby pre-empting one of the foremost rust spots on a BX hatchback - I've lost one car already to this, my TGD which carried me steadfastly over 45k miles during 3 years.

Since it came into my ownership, it's acquired that vital temperature gauge (an original Veglia GTi gauge on its second transplant and carried over from the old TGD), and had a general cooling system checkover - probably the most vital post-acquisition job on any XU-powered Citroen diesel. After a new thermostat and rad fan thermoswitch, followed by a thorough bleed, it rapidly lost the overheating problems that had dogged it during the latter days of Paul's ownership. It's recently been treated to new front discs and pads, and Tom sorted out the outer CV boot after I spent too long looking at it, asking questions, thinking and generally failing to get the job done. Various minor fettles and repairs have been necessary, and there are plenty more to come, as in the normal course of BX ownership. At the time of writing an MOT awaits.

Inside, apart from the temp gauge, it's had an interior transplant from Jon's old TZD, as I find the original grey woolen TGD tweed doesn't last too well in my ownership, though the original driver's seat is now doing sterling service as a swivelling computer chair!

After I had suggested "Grolliffe" as a name for Tom's ice-cool TZD, this was christened by him as "Graculus". See websites on Oliver Postgate for explanation.
