Changing the Heater Control Panel Bulbs

Pull the heater control knobs off and there are two screws underneath. Remove these before the vents and then lever the right hand clip towards the centre of the car. Pull the escutcheon forward and then do the same with the left hand clip. You'll need to remove the printed circuit board or the control module to get to the bulb holders. I'd suggest the former but you will need to take off the round part on the middle spindle. There is a tiny metal contact within, so use a rag underneath to catch it as it falls out. It is easier than trying to grapple with the module but if you must, these are four screws on the outer edge of the module.

The Bulbs that you need are 286 type capless.

Changing the Dash Bulbs (RHD)

You need to unscrew then remove the oddments tray in the top centre of the dash, remove wiring from clock (if fitted). On Drivers side of car, pry out and remove the plastic panel that contains LH mirror adjustment and front fogs switch.

Remove cowling below dash panel, and remove the 2 screws securing the instrument panel. Now, through the recess on the drivers side (the bit you removed in paragraph above) get your hand and arm up and through, and locate the speedo cable, pull it off (towards front of car). Now undo 11mm clip. Remove your scratched arm. In hole in middle of dash, get your hand through and remove 11mm securing nut. Dash can now be removed to replace the bulbs, which are mostly 286 capless type. Remember a couple of bulbs (e.g. for the oil level sensor) are hidden behind plastic covers, you need to unscrew these covers to gain access to the bulbs. Once all bulbs are changed, turn on ignition, and check everything illuminates. Also test all lights and switches.
Refit instrument panel, not forgetting to locate and press home speedo cable.
