1990 1.9 TGD Auto Olympic Blue For Sale (On E-bay)

Post by RxBX »

Comm'un you BXr's out there :-# , don't leave it to me or just a few others to post up For Sale finds !

As title listing H515 EFH spotted (Nearly escaped under the radar) on E-BAY but someone was very quick off the mark with a BIN of only £450 !

Such a super rare colour/engine/Auto-box combination and looks like had been well cared for and unmolested example (Apart from a broken glove-box, missing N/S/F bumper insert and dented/scraped arch) !

I wonder if may have been some old boys pride and joy and had to give up motoring and then it just got weighed in as the E-bay seller is a Car Dismantlers but at least they did the right thing and offer it up to give the BX a life-line.

If you look at the photos you can see that its been standing a while due to the mildew spots on the steering wheel !

Oh nearly forgot to mention the Uber-rare Armrest  that must be worth £100 on its own !

I hope its been bought by an honest forum member, rather than a window cleaner for a cheap hack (As its fitted with the roof bars ready for that type of work) or a Car Dealer who just may recommission it and then offer it For Sale after adding a Grand to the current price !

Looks like nearly new spheres fitted too ?

Note Uber-rare Armrest !

Edit:-
Just checked the DVLA site (Still showing as taxed) so I expect that's been cashed in by someone ?

As title listing (Now edited) Was:-'The one that nearly got away' has been RE-LISTED !

I have called the seller (Who is very pleasant and obliging with any questions/info) and apparently the original sale fell thro' due to a change in purchasers personal circumstances :?

Also I can confirm that there's no tax (Obviously been cashed in now) and no MOT, but the mileage is 85,841 !

If anyone is interested in it, (Send me a PM) as I have the log book ref. so that you can check the old MOT's ON-LINE but all the MOT's shows a straight pass every time apart from the last one which had an advisory only for the front flexi hoses which is what you can/would expect for a vehicle which is over 20 years old !

I shouldn't hang about too long on this one if it 'Floats your Boat' .

Hi Tim,
I'd be interested what they're like in stop start traffic- good, I would imagine, but I wonder if the autobox changes would be that smooth with the heavier diesel motor?
And how high 4th revs on the motorway?

It's all impossible speculation but difficult for me to go and test it/find anything the same over here.

I havent owned one for a while but the one I had seemed fine, it wasnt quick but the 4th gear was taller than the manual so was more relaxed at speed, no rev counter though!.

Ive heard of the auto-boxes failing on the diesel units as the vibration "shakes them to bits" but I guess its worth driving it and seeing if it engages smoothly and changes ok.

Kevan's your man on this subject as would have been Ken if he was still here.

The TD Auto is a great drive if you don't mind sedate. They are much better in stop start traffic than the manual and are good motorwar cruisers. No problem keeping up with modern traffic and all the gear changes are smooth but they are the N/A diesel so the engine isn't as refined as the TD. I much prefer driving my auto to my TZD, much more relaxing drive, not the car to have if you like to be first away from the lights all the time though.

Looking at that engine bay it is genuine mileage so gearbox and engine fit for at least the same miles again if the good servicing is continued. Looks like it has had recent new starter motor battery post clamps / leads. If the bodywork is fine I wouldn't hesitate with this one.

Ken alway's reckoned his auto diesels were the best for fuel economy whilst on the motorway, he'd see 60+mpg, he did say he drove it sedately though, which i'm guessing means cruising at 60mph. They have got a longer top gear than the manual, but overall the autobox does suck a bit more fuel, so if used on a normal commuting journey with a mixture of roads i'd expect to see low 40's to the gallon, which isn't bad really, a lot of so called modern cars can't do much better.

The condensation on the windows and mould on the steering wheel may mean it's got a leak, so worth checking for.

Aye. Check the seatbelts too. The Green Tiger got VERY mouldy after sitting around for a few months, gently leaking.

I've not had one of these but a mate had a 1.9 Diesel Auto ZX for years - economy on runs was as good as another mate's manual version and it was pretty good round town. Acceleration wasn't brilliant and on the hills round here if it decided to change down the best thing you could do was relax and let it climb at it's own speed, but it was a good motor that would even handle towing without any issues.

Compared with more modern diesel autos it will be slow, but for they day they were one of the best engines around and one of the more advanced auto boxes.
