Finaly got it

Post by Defender110 »

Well I finaly managed to make the trip down south to buy Tourist's TZD
Although I've got to say first impressions were not good. I drove down the street to be greeted by a filthy dirty BX that was that overdue a wash it had green mildew on the paint work and moss on the window rubbers and if that was not enough to put off a prospective buyer who had come 250 miles to pay top money for a top condition car I was then greeted by James walking towards me with a set of jump leads telling me the battery was flat and we would need to jump start it??? Inside the car was as dirty as the outside!..We had only been trying to arange this viewing for six weeks delayed due to waiting for the car to be mot'd and then by the snowy weather but confirmed last Thursday, surely James you should have given it a clean and charged the battery?????? Once jump started things could only get better........NOT,..no diesel! we drive to the petrol station round the corner but can't open the fuel cap because we can't turn the engine off to get the key to unlock the fuel flap due to the flat battery..... back to the house for the spare keys etc...etc... luckily I am not blinkered and looking deaper I could tell it wasn't a bad car underneath, it started smoothly and drove well and I had driven a long way to buy this car so I handed over the money and started the trip home. Apart from the brake warning light coming on occasionaly it drove the 247 miles impecably with me having to keep raining it in from it's 80 MPH chosen cruising speed (obviously keen to get up North :-) )
I plan to give it a full service and a once over this weekend, the wash would'nt wait thats been done. All in all I think this will be a good replacement for my TGD thats unfortunately due to be scrapped.
Thanks James, but take a tip and don't try and take up a carear as a car sales man :-)

Ye Mulley, I'm fully aware of James' previous experiences, this car is deffinately not in that category. I also know he got this one at handy money but that was his good fortune and I have happily paid what he wanted as it was worth it to me for a decent replacement to my TGD.

I'll try and get some photos up soon Graeme

The crazy dilema I have with this car is that I have always preffered the grey bobbly TGD interior to the TZD interior and realy want to swap the interior out of my TGD into the TZD which I know might sound crazy to some and upset the purist but It's in my head to do it to satisfy my own preferances???????

Well done. Another one saved no doubt. as James I believe had already given up on it. Possibly with good reason given his experience with another BX, but unfortunately not what one should've expected. Glad you were able to get it going.

You make it sound really bad Kevan, remember the car was sat at the garage for most of the time before you came down to get it.

It IS a good car and I think the fact that it passed mot only needing a new side-light bulb after some time of standing reflects this! It'll look really nice when it's clean, like in the pictures I sent you. With a bit of t-cut it will look even better.

Seeing as it's a "rare" car aswell it's better with someone who can better keep it on the road. I don't have the patience (or money, actually) for BXs anymore.

Hope this car gives you many years of driving pleasure :) or something like that.

P.S. brake light warning is news to me ...

Brake warning light is easily fixed as I'm sure you know Def110 but best check the pads to be sure!

A lot of people swear by the bobbly seats you describe, I had the same in my TGD. You swap away and don't mind the purists (if indeed there are any on here...?)

Good luck with the TZD

Looking foward to seeing some pictures of a clean bx :D inside & out :?

Come on James, you were just being lazy by not giving the car a wash, it doesnt matter if its mechanically good or not. I take it you own a bucket & sponge & a hoover (this device is useful for cleaning car interiors)

Anyways, hopefully the car has a chance now that its in new ownership....

I've only sat in the 'bobbly' interior in scrapyards, but have always thought how incredibly comfortable it was. If I wasn't such a tart I'd swap it for my leather one...

James

I have no critisism of the car what so ever it is as you have said a good car, in fact it is an excellent car other wise I wouldn't have bought it, I was just gobsmacked at the condition the car was in. When you are trying to sell a car it is advisable to show it in it's best possible state, i.e; clean and on the button. I have bought over 40 cars in my time and luckily for you I am now able to tell good from bad no matter how dirty they are but I am sure many others would have turned tail on site or at very least not been willing to pay your full asking price. The fact I was willing to travel so far was not as you percieved a gauranteed sale, you do normally need to put some input into a car sale with advertising costs and vehicle prep. etc, on this occasion you have been lucky enough to avoid both and a good wash has indeed transformed the car and would have cost you nothing more than a little elbow grease and a little of your time whilst greatly increasing your chance of a sale. Having said all that your method of selling cars has worked on this occasion :-)

Thank you for the car it is a good 1 and I am very sure you were not aware of the brake warning light and I wasn't trying to imply you were, it didn't appear untill 100 miles up the motorway & BTW; the central locking playing up was just a symptom of the flat battery.

Good luck with your future car ownership

Kevan, once you given the car a good clean & the moss has gone, i bet the mpg due to the reduced drag will improve
