Here is a modified layout diagram.

The question is still out there
..... what is the "round thing" and where can it be bought from (can't phone a Citroen dealer and say "do you have a round thing for a BX petrol", assuming they can still get it)

SOFABEX name is on the "round thing" and on the mechanical pump, but only pumps on the SOFABEX website. Searches for "petrol degasser", "petrol regulator", "petrol charcoal filter", and other permutations do not find anything like this with 3 connections.

It is shown circled in the picture at the start of the thread

no-one is saying that this causes running problems (well Willy may have implied it, but we're not talking about Willy's car)
For the record, I wasn't  , but anyway.

This is the closest googling will get me - "fuel vapour separator". Fig 6.1c seems to match what we have although sadly has little information about it.

As I already said I asked this question and got an answer about 5 years ago on this very forum.

However I can not find the post it related to or remember what the damn thing was called.

Unless your prepared to open it up to find out what it does on the inside your not going to be any wiser!

However why do you want to replace it? :?:

The point of this "round thingy" in addition to being able to deliver a good volume of fuel at low pressure is to prevent "Vapour Lock" which will be more prevalent on hot days and when idling in traffic.

Without the return line some fuel in the supply line can become hot enough to turn gaseous.

Now you given me something to think about with the "Vapour Lock"

Something that has been annoying me in the TZS with regards to cornering at speed, I have this issue where the car stutters like a loss of fuel going to the carb. Now you got me thinking maybe there is a fault in that cylinder gizmo.

A swap out from the TRS is on the cards to confirm that!

So is it a ''round thing'' or ''cylinder gizmo''? lets make our minds up :)

/\ I give up .... it's not me that needs one.

I have found all the following after Willy came up with "fuel vapour separator" (good work dude)

Wikipedia

ebay example

another ebay example

Willy's link again Ford Manuals

Mick it's also mentioned in Mk1 Golf owners club !!

And using Malcolm's insight (charcoal filters)

wikipedia

got lost in this thread

PS .... I'm determined to disconnect the output on the one on my car to see what comes out when the engine is running ...might be some special ants in there (I don't think it can be opened up)

That happens on mine with the elactric pump,
Usually resolved by dropping down a gear and keeping revs up a bit
