Since
being given to a good home at the end of February,2004. the car
has had:
A battery and service parts, including numerous belts and a glowplug,
as well as an ABS Sensor and Tacho sensor. The cooling system was
given particular attention, always wise on one of these.
A cheap Kenwood stereo is fitted with Pioneer speakers. and a GTI
interior.
Hydraurincage treatment, New discs all round, rear spheres and arm
bearings, Michelin tyres fitted, new front struts from a donor car
and new track rod ends. A serviced intercooler is a good thing to
have, see DIY tips.
The rear lights have been improved, the instrument ones replaced
throughout and a second electric rear view mirror fitted which entailed
some mods to the switch.
Steering is set up with a home made laser tracking system.
Radio controlled central locking is built but not yet fitted
A computerised cooling management system is in the latter stages
of design.
An aircon system was fitted between May and July , costing about
£500 and lots of time!
(Hence the chosen name "Grolliffe", which refers to an
Ice Dragon (clerical grade)).
Completes 1200 Miles per month, regularly returns 48 MPG driven
briskly and is happy averaging 100 MPH on long trips to the continent
at 32MPG on French Biodiesel. The engine is unmodified. Not bad
for the £1000 invested in all!
Due to be moved to France early next year on runabout duties.
