Dave's 16 Valve 1990 Phase2

Post by Dave_16v »

Hi All

I have just joined this forum but have been a member of both the original and current 16V forum. I have owned 4 BX's, a Black manual GTi, a Silver Auto GTi, a white phase 1 16v and finally this phase 2 which I have had for 23 years. I have just put the car back on the road after many years of dry storage but with the occasional wash, start and general once over. It has just passed the MOT and everything works [-o<

I have fitted a new HP belt which has made a massive difference to the steering and hydraulics generally.

I took the car for a drive today and it was just as I remember sailing along a country road, a sunroof is so nice to have on a sunny day :)

Here are a few pictures you might like, some from the 16V forum. At least another is back on the road for the time being although I do not intend driving it over the winter.

Taken a couple of days later on a run before a storm just after a transmission oil change. It is really running nicely and it got back home dry :D

It gleams! Very nice 16v that, looks quite immaculate. Interesting front indicators, im assuming they aren't standard? They work well with the black body colour though.

Thank you to both of you. It is strange having had the car so long and now taking it out. It gets a few looks for sure.

The indicators are something I did a good while back, considered going clear again but I like the look just now.

I have seen another black one on here, also looks extremely nice.

Thank you for your kind comment. I see it most days when I pop into the garage. Due to unforeseen events, I have had a few contractors round recently, as soon as they saw it parked up, work went on hold and we had various conversations about it and cars they had owned. One who saw the rear said straight away, "you don't want to get that wet" as I was intending to back it out for boiler access. He said he would manage happily and I have had to promise him a ride in it because he is a classic enthusiast, he thought it was great. I am not sure when that will be as I am not using it just now and although lockdown has affected that this past year, I am always busy other times anyway. I think it's pretty much the same for many owners as I see it said so often. Here is a more recent photo backed out. There is something about the shape which is so different.

What a beauty Dave, a credit to you.
While mine is in good nick mechanically, parking it on an east London street means there’s no point worrying about the looks, as parking scuffs and weather damage are constant. I look forward to the day when I can have a garage- and when that happens the first thing on the list will be a respray and plenty of wax!

Lovely, Dave. BXs a rare sight on the roads now, even though numbers are not that low in the UK (c250 taxed and another c1100 SORN). Even rarer down here - we see about one a year now; the nearest is about 20mins away in El Morche, a truly poverty-spec red metallic "BX", with a very tired and sun-wrecked interior.

They still have the ability to turn heads, especially the youngsters' — 'What is that??' The low lines, and the origami styling - hardly a curve to be seen at first glance - are a bit of a surprise after all the rounded-off SUV lookalikes.

Yeah I've got a thread over there that hasn't been updated in a long while! - not much to update really - Hopefully I'll organise a respray in the next few years so it can be half as nice as yours looks!
