ZX corner

Post by Philip Chidlow »

A bit of time since I last had anything much to do with Citroens, but I'm pleased to say I've got one again. Not a BX (one day hopefully!) but what could be considered a pretty decent contemporary, a ZX.

It was by chance really. We decided to sell the 806, and a guy offered up his ZX and a wad of cash so what could I say? :)

It's a 1995 ZX 1.9D Avantage 3 door in white. It's got 102k miles on it, an apparently a FSH (his wife is supposed to be sending the service wallet to me - she forgot to put it in the car but even if porkies are being told, you can see it's been mechanically maintained). The original trims (on 13" wheels) are still on it, and the coded radio is still OK as the original booklet is still with it. And it drives very well indeed.

A fuller report later, but here's a picture for now:

Looks lovely Phil. Your arm muscles will be aching with the 'keep fit' windows. :-)

Electric windows, central locking, electric tilt and slide sun roof, PAS. The only manual bits are the rear windows and the gearbox lol!

Tidy looking motor, although not my thing. Mind you, I currently have hankerings for a Visa, and until the last couple of years they weren't my thing either!

Thanks, it's not perhaps as tidy as it looks but it ain't bad and once it's been up on the ramp end of next week I'll have a better idea....

Can't make the National this year, but I'll try to come to the CXM Rally in September.

I know it's not a BX, but it's still a Citroen and a worthy contemporary to our favourite car  In my mind, in some respects it is better, in others not a patch on a BX. I'd like both. Although the ZX is an easy way back into Citroen ownership - and cheaper than a BX these days!

Wash thy mouth out! It's a Peugeot in a frock, not a citroen! Not that I'm trying to say bugger off to a pug forum you understand!

If I was hanging up my bx gloves, I'd be in for a zx too, or a pug 306, less bother no doubt, but lacking in charisma and as you say, not a patch on a bx!

Aye, but if it was a crap drive I'd hang my head in shame. But it isn't. It goes really well and handles a dream. More fun chucking it around town than in the Red Baron dare I say (runs and hides). Not so good cross country though.

I'm taking the ZX for a thorough check up on a ramp tomorrow. Should find what horrors are lurking. It's at that point I'll make the decision to run it until the MOT runs out in 2014 or actually start preparing it for a few more year's life. I must say I think the ZX is, overall, a convincing package and although it's nothing to look at, deserves the respect it gets from some Citroenistes - (ok it's a 306 in different clothes, but that's hardly damning). Maybe it's time I revisited the FCF.

Looks lovely Phil and IIRC the 306 was a ZX in party frocks. So the ZX is the master, so to speak.
