Coolant Hose drama

Post by kiwi »

Basically the TXD sprung a leak where the pipe that goes to the Oil filter cooler rubbed against the starter motor! Tracing the pipe back it goes to a T-piece from the main lower rad pipe to the back the engine.

So I was sent a replacement pipe only it was spiced half way along the mai pipe (in the wheel arch. A piece of steel pipe inserted to connect the two. Fitted well just one snag. Despite tightening up the c clips it still leaks!

Any thoughts on what I could seal the joint with that will work? Pretty much stuck till mid January as the mechanics over loaded pretty Christmas (summer in NZ) bookings.

I use silicone, the high temperature variety, for either gaskets or flues.
The Joy of BX with just one Citroën BX to my name now. Will I sing Bye Bye to my GTI or will it be Till death us do part.

After I read this I remembered there was a tube of instant gasket laying around from many moons ago replacing thermostat on another car. Took the pipe apart again dried it squirted that around the join pushed back together, tightened the clips with socket rather than screwdriver and it seems to have worked.

Dont you just hate it when the obvious passes you by! Thanks for reminding me.
