Selling Tips Etc

Post by M »

Welcome to the For Sale / Wanted section of BXClub.co.uk
The first port of call for many people, not just club users who want to sell their BX or related spares as the service is free and fairly widely read by BX enthusiasts.
But before you post, please take some time to read these pointers to an advert to avoid unnecessary questions.

1) A picture is worth a thousand words, so if possible or applicable post at least one photograph of the car / item you are selling. Pictures should be hosted on a dedicated website (eg Photobucket.com or Tinypix.com) and linked to. Photos should be no larger than 500 x 375 pixels.
If you have problems posting a photo - try googling on line photohosting and remember to use the [img] tags.

2) Common questions are: How Much? Where are you? and Does it have any MOT / Tax?
Think about what you would like to know when buying a car and integrate this into your advert.
Most commonly its the type, style, colour, age, number of owners, service history, major work, miles covered, MOT history and current MOT, if there is any road tax included (a car that can be legally driven away will always command a higher price than one that has to be sneaked away under cover of darkness!) Think about work such as timing belts, head gaskets and so on. Remember the buyer of a £400 car will be harder to please than the buyer of a £14000 car - strange but true.

3)Be consise, try not to waffle too much - if you convince the world its a gut wrenching thing to be selling your car, they will stsrt to get suspicious of why you are selling!

4) Be truthful. Quite apart from leaving yorself open to possible redress if you tell porkie pies it wont do you any favours if somone travels any distance to view your "minter" and finds its sadly lacking. People are more likely to buy a realistically priced car with known "bad bits" than a highly priced car which turns out to have been owned by John Wayne.

5) Please do not abuse the service - it is a free service to club users to buy and sell BX cars and related bits, the admin & moderators will overlook occasional adverts for other Citroen cars, but please dont take the micky... For non BX sales try www.frenchcarforum.co.uk or www.loot.com www.gumtree.com or that old favourite www.eBay.co.uk
Adverts we consier to be abusing the service will be deleted.

Thanks.
Marty.

Just an update on this!, what was posted by M back in 2006 is still very relevant, please avoid adverts that don't have a prices, also "Offers" isnt much use to anyone, location and a list of good and bad points and of course most importantly a picture.

With the new "GDPR" rules and for safety and security reasons please do not publish sensitive information such as your address, telephone number and email address (they will be removed), please use the PM facility for this only ONLY!,

There a lot of scammers out there that will forward your details around the world and you will be bombarded with unsolicited calls & emails.

Thanks for your co-operation.
Lots of Motors, mostly semi broken....
