BX Head Unit

Post by Jugostran »

Hey all, quick question.
A year ago I got a fairly cheap JVC head unit for my BX, and it has been getting on my nerves. Firstly, it doesn't turn on/off with the ignition. Secondly, the only way to turn it on and off is by holding the source button for 10 seconds. You can see how this would be really irritating if you make lots of short trips (like I do).
So, what are some possible solutions? Is there a way to wire it up to the ignition, or should I get a better head unit? If the latter is the case, which one should I go with?
Many thanks.

Head units normally have 2 power feed wires, one unswitched and one switched. Do you have the fitting instructions?

I presume that the head unit has a DIN connector block with flying leads that you spliced into the BX wiring, or did the BX already have a DIN plug?

You can pull a switched live by splicing into the ignition loom, thr rest i. e the perm live and ground are already there.

I do have the fitting instructions. Pretty sure the BX already had a DIN plug, but it had to be rewired for the new unit (not completely sure as I didn't install it myself)

That sounds quite simple. I'll take a peek into the installation instructions and see if I can wire it up.

If you remove or even look behind the centre console down by the pedal box you'll find the Ign switch loom 4 fairly thick wires poss 3 red 1 white, you can take a switched live from here.
