Only for the green, blue & red varieties, not those common as muck brown tinted one's

I have finaly sussed this one out, all the joints and contacts were perfectly clean and using Matts great tip of pointing it into my phone camera I was able to see the white light transmitting but it was still intermitently operating the C/L. The plip has 3 x cell batteries and although the sprung contacts holding them together were tight enough when I removed the batteries again there were wear marks on each battery showing they had been moving / rubbing individually against each other. I held all 3 batteries together whilst rapping them with selotape around the outside perimeter preventing them from moving individually so in theory creating one battery instead of 3. The plip now works perfectly every time from a greater distance.
