My first driving instructor imparted the following on my first lesson, which I've never forgotten: "Don't drink and drive, and assume everyone else does. If you assume that they might be in the wrong place, forget to signal, forget to look etc, then you'll never have an accident involving someone else."
True enough, I never have. I've scraped a bumper a time or two in the early days, but never anything more than a gentle kiss, and with only one exception in Turin, paint only.
Hopefully the insurance will write it off for a decent sum, and then allow you to buy it back for a song.
