Judging by the pictures you have a good car to start with, she is 21 years old so you expect the odd niggle, but should give plenty more years of comfortable transport if maintained correctly, and at that mileage its bearly run in!.
As with all diesels, keep the oil clean and fresh, make sure the cooling systems in good health and if youre not sure when the cambelt was last changed (and the tensioner) thats something to get done asap, if it snaps it could possibly mean the end of the car!

Hi Sal, and welcome to the BXC,and well done with your first BX purchased
I also hope you got a few quid knocked off it too, as the MOT is soon up on it !
So don't get alarmed by this is, as its a normal occurrence which happens to BX's/XM's/Xantia's as they get older and is no more than a slight bit of inconvenience, but don't leave it too long to get it sorted as you don't want it getting onto your tyres (+ the cost of replenishing the lost LHM) !
Also if you have a 'Tarmac drive' and leave the vehicle parked roughly in the same location, it will eventually dilute the tar to be left with loose limestone or granite chippings when you wash the drive down leaving to patches/holes in the surface of your drive !
I therefore suggest you read thro' THIS thread (As can seen, I have a new pair if you need a new pair) ?
Also just in-case you missed the LINK to help you with your replacement or mod for your strut return pipes, I may have a nearly new N/S front headlight too unless your going for a new one off E-BAY If not, let me know and I could have a look thro' my stock (when I get time tomorrow) ?
I hope hope the /\ may be of help to you !

So I was just wondering (having more or less joined up to BXC after your purchase) had you been a 'lurker' (Guest) and if so was it my posting which led you to this rare nice example (Obviously when you give the bit of TLC) or had you seen it in 'Auto-trader' first ?RxBX wrote:...............................................
Did anyone off the forum secure this one via my post/lead ?

As already pointed out by other members /\ , I'd say it's just a rubber leak off/vent strut return pipe that's old/perished which has fractured, hence a bit of a leak !halima99 wrote:Hiya guys, just thought I would like to introduce my self, I am Sal from Leeds and I have just bought this car for a nice price, this is my first BX and I hope to keep it for a while, I just needed to ask you guys a few questions, firstly I will need a nsf headlamp if any of you have a spare, secondly when I bought the car I checked for any leaks from suspension etc with the limited knowledge I have of these cars there seemed to be none, however upon arriving at home and parking car on my drive way I noticed fluid leaking from front wheel area of drivers side, if any of you can point me in the right direction that would be of great help, thanks guys.

Welcome aboard Sal - looks like you made a good purchase there. Where 'people' get the idea that BXs are unreliable French rubbish beats me, when all the evidence is to the contrary. They need a bit of maintenance - which is entirely reasonable for a twenty year old car - but apart from that they're very reliable cars in my experience. IMHO with a bit of careful looking after, they'll still be chugging along in their own inimitable way long after most of the electronically loaded modern wonder cars are sitting around in scrap yards. The only real problem with BXs is that one is never enough!halima99 wrote:Thanks for the feedback guys, I have always loved the look on these cars but was afraid to buy one because of what people said about them but hey, (don't knock it back till you have tried it) , drove the car back home yesterday and must admit a very comfortable ride back, a few issues need sorting but for me it's a nice starting project and with folks as helpfull as you guys I should have access to a fountain of knowledge.
