Completely agree about a mezzanine or similar, and as much racking as you can lay your hands on. You can never have too many shelves, too much light or too many sockets in a workshop. Main thing is to get the infrastructure in before you start filling up the space. But whatever you do you're doomed in the long run, because you're dealing with a variant of Parkinson's law, which states that gas will expand to fill the space available. Just substitute the word 'crap' (in its automotive meaning of 'stuff which willl come in useful one day whether I need it or not') and you'll get the picture.

Surely you're thinking of Boyle's law? Parkinsons's law is to do with work expanding to fill the time available.

How could we doubt anyone resourceful enough to find a good shed. Like I say, shed envy and of filling half of it with pointless projects .
I can see corrugations, thats good. Is any part of this shed green? Oh! suit you . Of course a real shed fan will always try and seek one growing a range of green moss, lichen and slime outside . Perhaps a tendril or two of blind ivy or rampler inside . Oooooo, I need to go and have a shower, I will step outside to save time! My Cumbrian one has hanging lichen. Aeergh, nurse....

"Dexion" and "eBay" come to mind

I was lucky - I worked for a while on the EMI site at Hayes (actually in the building where they used to produce the records !) while they were dismantling and moving out - you still had to buy any surplus you wanted but it was at a very nominal price. It took me the best part of a day to dismantle all the dexion shelves I bought.

And im already finding the mez floor will be essential soon when more stuff is crammed in.

You're right! Parkinson's Law (a pisstake, basically) is based on Boyle's law (a proper law of physics) - I always mix them up! That's why I'm a journalist, not a physicist!

Industrial shelving is strong enough to provide a mezzanine but it will restrict parking beneath dependent on design. That said it can keep stored cars away from the working area.

Dexion is suspect for mezzanine construction unless you use a lot. However with the narrowness of the shed, to length, you can put out spurs to place against the opposing wall and have extensive shelving. This is what I have in my shed. A half is industrial shelving with cars on. The other side has dexion shelving to the roof with cross pieces across to the industrial shelf. It is very hard for the structure to sag sideways or across. I then boarded out every other gap and use these for things like seat sponge and other light weight volume users. The industrial stuff was £50 collected from the unit being refitted. The dexion about the same from several sources similar. So some £175 to rack and shelve out giving additional floor of 600 sq ft over 850 sq ft, place the shelving. Bodyshells (GRP Microcars) and empty panels are tied to the roof joists and hung. Very efficient.

I only managed to take one picture on Saturday despite shifting two BX's and an Ami with Matt... It's amazing how long it takes to load, trailer a car 18miles and then unload again...



I must say I was impressed with how well the green 19D coped towing another TD estate on a trailer that is no lightweight itself.
