Found this post when trying to look into the feasibility of swapping out the 5th gear on my 4x4, am I reading it right that internally it's a TD gearbox, more or less? Also I have a gearbox ratio chart for the 4x4 models from a French manual that was translated. Image

After playing around with my gear ratios, I found that the GTI 4x4 box I had was originally the same as a 1.7 diesel non turbo, so not the same as a turbo gearbox. See my last post on this thread; I put all the info that I found at the time on there. It was originally the top gearbox on the table in Jaba’s post.

I eventually made a hybrid gearbox, so it has the turbo gearsets, but the original final drive, so it suits the engine a lot better. It was too high geared with the turbo final drive too.
