Rich's BX 19TRS

Post by Rich »

Since my "My new toy" thread has turned into a bit of a Blog I have decided to continue the adventures here.....

But first a quick photo recap:

Bought back in September '10 for 500 quid off Eday with only 33000 miles and history:

Our relationship didn't get off to the best start as it then broken down on the way home due to an over excited auto choke:

Fettling ensued to deal with the few bits of surface rust but on the whole it was in fantastic condition:

.... and I showed the auto choke who was boss by fitting a manual conversion found on ebay.

It then entered the Sadler daily routine of commuting and camping (like you do!)

...and a bit more sorting:

... yet more sorting and fitting a tow bar so I can drag around various lumps of Citroens finest:

...and that brings us up to date.

So to yesterday...

I took my Dad and Brother down to the Imperial War Museum, London for a bit of a day out. My Dad drives an Audi A4 Turbo and my Brother has an Audi TT and a BMW Z3 3L (oh the joys of not having Kids  ).

They had never been more than a couple of miles in my BX untill yesterday and were both amazed at how bloody good a car that cost less to buy than their road Tax bill could be (they both think that anything older than 5 years is going to be nothing but trouble).

I just sat there smug grin on my face

It ain't going anywhere soon :)

I finally got around to wiring in the towbar electrics today.... nice and straight forward due to all the required wires being tucked behind the n/s rear light cluster.

I'm now waiting on the call to tow home one of my 2cv's from a mate of mine who is completing the required weldathon.

It was last May when Matt Stinkwheel dragged the ol girl over to Wellingborough for major open wallet surgery

First Tow Job

Post by Rich »

As it is 1/2 term this week and I have been a good boy and done the house work and cleaned the windows of Sadler Towers, I was alowed to go and play for a couple of hours in the sunshine this afternoon.

So I decided to dig the 007 out of my Father-in-laws garage where it is stored for the winter and try out a 2CV specific A frame I bought a few months ago for draging around my 2CV's.... and of cause test the new towbar on the BX. :)

My conclusions from this are as follows:

1) The A frame fitted like a dream
2) The BX towed brilliently... No suprise there then!
3) Being able to lower the suspension is dead useful for hitching up
4) Don't forget the bungees to attach the Lighting board
and
5) The cable on the (new) Lighting board is 2 feet too short (Sod!)

I'm glad the A frame is working well. I've found that they don't like too high a hitch height, which would be difficult to rectify with your set up!
