Rear disc removal

The caliper is probably seizing up on the slider pins, you need to undo the pins and clean / lubricate them. This can usually be done without having to undo the pipes Leaving the caliper in situ. You may however find the slider seals have perished which is a problem as repair kits with just the pins and seals in are just as expensive as a complete caliper off ebay. My split seals are currently coated in thick grease untill I can locate a cheap source for the pins and seals as the actual main hydraulic side of the caliper is perfect.

Riku, thanks for the diagram, I may be able to fashion something, but certainly lack many of your skills! Cheers.

Defender - that sounds about right, definitely one of the seals looks pretty ropey, I'll try the thick grease method as a stop gap. Many thanks.

:?: I think you are getting mixed up with the fronts here. The rear calipers are different, are hard mounted and have a piston in both halfs. So unless I am misunderstanding you, there are no slider pins on the rear brakes?
