As far as I'm concerned anyone can play and voting will be more or less democratic unless it gets ugly/decisions can't be made collectively, in which case - having been asked to organise this shindig - I may* turn Evil Dictator and make a 'best fit' decision which hopefully won't piss absolutely *everyone* off.

*about a 2000% probability on that TBH.

EDIT to say: the key thing here is to get the profile of the BX raised by having a good mix of nice looking and/or interestingly knackered cars with eyecatching stories. If that's a success, then anyone who was disappointed last year/doesn't make the stand this year has a fair shot next year because if our stand is great/popular it'll improve our chances for 2014

Des, I think your St Tropez, with it's rebuild documented on laminates etc, would be a star attraction.

Quite agree, you're St Tropez is mechanically more original than Ian's estate but then again it has done 1/4 of the mileage...

In an ideal world, we'd have a couple of super shiney cars, and then anything else. That gives a fair reflection of the clubs judging by any meeting I've been too. We're not all polishers! I also get very bored with line after line of shiny cars at the NEC - which is why I was so chuffed to get Timex on the stand.

I agree that the St Tropez would look lovely on the stand but question any comment on originality. My BX has the original gearbox and subframes (as far as I know) and most of its original metal. Only the engine has been changed. Personally though, I don't give a stuff about originality. As soon as you change the engine oil, it's no longer how it left the factory. I'd rather see cars that have been used and maintained - both my BX and the St Tropez fall into that category.

Agree with Ian, we need to show the world how fixable these cars are and can be kept running for huge mileages with care, the St Tropez being a bog basic (no offence Des) model would be a good display car and they can really stand out being all white....decisions descisions!

As Evil NEC Stand Dictator, I dictate that no final decisions are being made until everyone who wants to has had a chance to put their hand up Comments, suggestions and opinions MORE than welcome, none of these are promises either way though. In case anyone missed it in my first post we'll be aiming to finalise the line-up by mid-August.

Des, please post blog links/pics if you do want your St Tropez in the voting pot . Ditto Vanny for Jazz. Ditto anyone else who wants to 'ave a go but isn't sure - the collective will decide, resistance is futile, etc. It just makes it easier for people who don't spend half their lives on here or who haven't met many of us (or our cars in the metal!) to see/remember who's who and what's what if it's all in one place. Ta.

@Ian - main reason for wanting electricity is so that we can get some decent lighting ... will see what's on offer when the paperwork comes through. *adds 'anyone got any of those rechargeable workshop lights, just in case* to Events thread ...

You now need to go into hiding from Paul296 (who is in command of design).

"Commercially speaking" it is a fantastic idea to have a famous BX on the stand. The organisation behind that particular one though means that it won't happen on my watch. It's not so much the horror of the gold respray as the misery that Bet Victor and their ilk cause. Those are my ethics, if you don't like them I have some more (Groucho Marx, I think, one of them anyway).

On that note, I am pondering whether/how we could find out whether any A-list famous people (as opposed to someone who was on Jeremy Kyle one time) have owned BXs for a bit of a "splash" on one of the boards - that actress who was in in Sean of the Dead owned the GTi Hurricane IIRC.. I abhor "sleb" culture and all it stands for, but have to agree that for the benefit of the BX it might be worth marginally relaxing my snobbishness on that to get the punters in if any good material can be found. I'm going now before I throw up over my keyboard >.<

You'd have to select your superstar carefully though - I know one good way of upsetting SM owners - 'hey, didn't Jimmy Saville own one of those?'

Fulton Mackay, who played Mr Mackay in Porridge, drove a BX. That's about as celeb as I can bear to get...
