Paul296 to the rescue!

"Why, yes, I'll go to a complete stranger's house on my own with a large wad of cash. Good plan." Not.

As it happens, the owners are *lovely* - (you just don't know though do you). Anyway, A was selling a high mileage 17RD last year which is sadly likely to go for scrap tomorrow- will dig out thread when I get home.

I'm delighted Sandre bought that car - if she'd waited another week it'd have gone- it's just about as good as it looks in the pics and DEFINITELY worth the asking price.

It'll need a bit of TLC to get it really up together but nothing that's not par for the course: there's a small hole in the n/s inner wing and the exhaust hanger/ boot floor corner will need welding up, but didn't look too bad. The engine bay generally was very good with no sign of oil staining on the inter-cooler. I had a good prod around in the boot and everything seemed very solid. Rear arm bearings are shot and the clutch is OK but probably not that much life left in it. The coolant warning light is on but there was no sign of HG problems and the car ran beautifully. I think the sensor on the back of the header tank is bust. The suspension was superb with new rear spheres recently - no leaks, no sticky struts and no knocking from ball joints/drive shafts/ drop links etc. Some of the fuel pipes will need replacing though - rust! The interior is just about mint but a manual mirror has been fitted on the near side (and the handles missing) - all the dash board lights were out (except the bleddy warning light!) it'll need a radio as well. There's a fair bit of service history including recent cam belt and new discs and pads all round.

The paint in general is excellent although the tailgate could do with a bit of paint as there's a few marks that won't respond to a bit of touching up - well they will but it'd look shit! The bumpers need new inserts, the fogs need replacing and the wheels need a refurb - other than that - it's great. A pillars good. B pillars good. C pillars need a refurb as they're a bit bubbly but were covered in Waxoyl ages ago so they haven't got too bad. That's it. A half decent TZD Hurricane without rocketship miles for 550 quid? Not bad! =D>

. . . on the way home an American lady asked us if we had any jump leads to jump start this . . .

Image

. . . a 1930 Cord L29 Cabriolet/Limousine! We didn't, but if we had I'm not quite sure how Sandre's TZD would have got it going: a V12 engine running on a 6V system? The lady got a taxi home in the end - bloody American rubbish (well, probably close on a million quids worth of American rubbish I imagine! )

\:D/ ^^bx> You've wanted one for a while sweetheart, glad you've managed to scratch that itch! I remember you telling me tales of driving a hurricane along the north cornwall coast in idyllic sunshine back in the day, now you can do so again, hooray :D

Well done, it looks a decent car. I actually bought my last one unseen but recommended as decent by certain members of this forum including a certain Mr L****. Didn't even test drive it, just drove it 200 miles home. TBH it hasn't been too bad for a 'northern' example, but definitely more rusty than my older 'southern' one. Just more salt on the roads I'm afraid.

Hope it looks after you.

Well done. The main challenge will be getting it as shiny as Paul's ;)

Are you keeping the TZD?

Wow! That Cord is incredible. For info, a 12v jump will get a 6v starter spinning very merrily! Not recommended for anything other than a very short burst. A friend does likewise with a 24v jump on 12v stuff and hasn't blown himself up yet...

Most 6v starters will cope quite well on 12v - it's the rest of the electrics you need to watch!

Just as well we didn't have any jump leads. If we'd have blown her car up, I'd probably have muttered something about it being lucky that it was only an old car - in an embarrassed sort of way.
