The application has just gone in for a BXC stand at the Classic Car and Bike Show in November 2015 at the NEC in Birmingham. We should know sometime in May if we've been successful, so . . . watch this space.

I think we're in with a fair chance this year; we mentioned that our display would include a car recently featured in Practical Classics (quite which one that was escapes me just at the moment :) ), and this year the show moves to the main NEC arena with substantially more exhibition space. So . . . fingers crossed.

Fingers crossed. The last one was one of the best things I've done with my car, and I'll always be grateful to those who made it happen. Happy to help out on the stand again, and if you want the red 17k 16TRS mk1 I've got I'm sure I could present it in an "as found on a driveway" state!

Well. The last I heard was the 14 April when Clarion (event organiser) apologised for delayed response and hoped to let us know by early May. I've now had an email advertising tickets in my Inbox and we're not on the exhibitors list.

So guess that's a 'No' then. Will prod 'em anyway.

That's a shame. :( Perhaps Joe Public just wants to gawp at old Ford Escorts and Austin 1100's? ](*,)

Yet the Borgward Drivers Club were petitioning for more space. Up from 3 cars to 9. Now I like Borgwards, but is the world ready to see 9 at once, when most people have not a clue what they are? Many folk who go to these things like to prattle about cars they used to have, as they walk round. So wall to wall MG's is not really cutting the mustard. A balance, favouring those clubs that make an effort to exhibit their cars imaginatively, would seem the obvious course of action.

Another reason I gave up on these events was the lack of different cars and the favouritism to certain marques, some of whom appeared to feel dumping a few cars, as if visiting the supermarket, was good enough. Yet next year, there they were in prime position again, outside the supermarket. We used to put a lot of work in to make a show, always got a mediocre spot in the draft at the end of the Wills Warehouse at Bristol Docks, yet were often the busiest part of the show, with the microcars. We were in effect carrying the lazy bigger clubs. It ended in a tiff with the organiser refusing to accept an error he made. His loss, I think. Even today the diminished Bristol CCS, now not in Bristol but some 30 miles south (?), has minimal microcar coverage, nor do the enthusiasts attend it. This despite several management/owner changes. Enthusiasts have long memories when it comes to be victimized.

But I am out of touch. Despite several microcar stands annually at the NEC, it must be 20 years since I have attended. Certainly not after I knocked one of their ignorant security penguins for six while delivering goods. I felt rather lucky to escape the site, and a return inadvisable for a few years.

A little bird has told me there might be space still at this show at Ally Pally should that interest those that might want to attempt a stand.

If not it might interest those in the area as a day out.

The Manchester classic show was well represented by a few members of the club with Leos 16v, ZX, C6 and Mark Smiths XM!
