The TD variant is quieter, longer 5th gear & i'm guessing that the Turbo also reduces the noise levels. I always kept mine at around 63mpg, which was acceptable noise levels for long periods of time. Perhaps the K&N panel filter i'd fitted added to the noise, haha....Bought a BX

Yes the TD is a bit quieter but still noisy compared to modern cars.
I found my 19d sounded like it was being strangled to death even at half throttle with an agricultural backnote, yet I drove another which sounded totally different much quieter smoother and less farmlike, both had covered roughly same mileage with a year between them.
