Actually 'text' was available on pagers way back in the 70s', just the mobiles that were slow to pick up on it, for a while......

Personally, I just don't want to sign up on f/b....also the better tech articles tend to be in the relevant section on this site. Thanks, to all who have contributed to the knowledge base.

Two different roles in my mind: A lot of the 'social stuff' has migrated to FaceBook clearly... but here's a great place for informed advice.

Those who dont or wont go on f/b are missing out on a lot of stuff about BXs which is your loss. Lots of pictures, technical or otherwise. they say a picture says a 100 words, well, give it a go cos i think u will like it. Had a friend once who would never eat curry, never tried one in his life and said he hated foreign muck. He always stuck to his principles but one day he was given some without rice and ate it unexspectedly and liked it. Dont knock it if you havnt tried it. Just stay in the stone age.

Agreed. As I've said before (so many times it's beginning to sound like the CD.....no wait, sorry - Mp3 system has jammed  : Facebook is far superior than a forum for the social side of car ownership and communities, whether it's just a quick picture of your car at the top of a hill, or event organisation. Forums, are far superior at more in-depth stuff, like build blogs, troubleshooting etc. The people who get their knickers in a twist thinking that one is trying to outdo the other are just either uninformed, ignorant or completely missing the point. If people don't want to use FB, fine, that's all the reason you need. My beef is with those who pit the forum against FB. They are not, and never will be in competition with each other.

Then I think you may be delusional, the forum is so much quieter than it used to be because people can get instant reply's and hold a simulated instant conversations on FB without having to wait for replies which has without doubt affected the popularity of the forum making it much quieter and therefore less enjoyable. It is quite simply technological advancement which is slowly but surely converting the forum into a reference library rather than a community forum to say otherwise is a very flawed theory IMHO.

Delusional? Gee, thanks for that.

The forum goes through peaks and troughs. Always has done. Just a few weeks back I logged in on a Monday morning and when I clicked the new posts thing, there was a list of about 15 posts to go through. This weekend it was dead. That happens on forums. At the end of the day, it's a small English-based forum centred around enthusiasts and owners of a car which is fairly unpopular and a bit left-field in English-speaking circles. It's never going to be big in the first place, so no, I don't think it's dying at all. That's not a theory, it's an opinion.

No worries...
FWIW I think so long as Facebook don't introduce a searchable database aspect to group pages the Forums will always be there.

I've deleted facebook, I feel in general the whole thing is past its best and the news feed is just a pit of anger, misinformation and one-upmanship. Not good for mental health.

But the one thing that makes me want to create a pseudonym account with zero friends in order to log back in to follow just one page is the BX Club! Sad aren't I...
