Still amazes me that people dont think to try classic insurance for BX's! I imagine hes got a shiny new pad with her indoors so the motor has to go!ken newbold wrote:I have a few details which have been given me over the phone on this, so please don't take as gospel but won't be far off.
Mileage is about 100k
Tax till December
MOT June 2012
2 owners from new.
Loads of service history (may be complete)
CD player, rear headrests.
Price £600 ono.
Location Leeds
I should have a phone number later tonight or tomorrow.
The young guy who owns it has been paying a staggering amount of money for insurance but now is getting a flat very close to his work, so won't need the car, or the expense.

Tim, would it be eligible for classic insurance being a K plate. IIRC needs to be 21yrs old to qualify, but i could be mistaken.

With regard to "classic" insurance, it seems to me the key element is the possession/use of another car as a daily driver. Additionally, the insurer will want a mileage cap and a number of exclusions such as no driver under the age of 21.
As with all insurance policies, phoning around and comparing prices and policies pays dividends, but the comparison sites are of no use for this more specialist niche.
At the moment I have my V6 XM on a multi-car policy with Admiral and so it is earning me some no claims in addition to the no claims I have on my modern car - classic policies do not usually award a no claims bonus in my experience.
Getting back to the BX, I am very tempted, since it is almost local! There seem to be so few older Cits north of the M62.

Yes these are the points a lot of people appear to be oblivious to with classic car policies; They won't issue No Claims bonuses on classic policies because most are additional to a main everyday car policy which your No Clains are linked to.ragger wrote:With regard to "classic" insurance, it seems to me the key element is the possession/use of another car as a daily driver. My TGD Auto is on a very cheap classic car policy but I have my Mitsi L300 on a main policy (with a different company) if I try to insure my TGD Auto as my only car it is 4 times the price of the classic policy Additionally the wife can't insure the TZD on a classic car policy as it is her only car.

I disagree. I seem to have all of my cars on one classic policy. I don't own any other cars. I am a named driver on my wife's car, but I've never told the insurance company that.
Yes, the lack of NCD is a pain, but then premiums are a lot, lot cheaper - and it stops me from buying something modern, like that Alfa Romeo 156 JTD I spotted a while back...

I would suggest checking the wording of your policy or ring your insurance company to make sure it is a stand alone policy.Dollywobbler wrote:I disagree. I have done. No problems. I've owned only classics for years now, and had them insured with different companies, and have never required a 'modern' policy as well.Defender110 wrote:I would suggest checking the wording of your policy or ring your insurance company to make sure it is a stand alone policy.Dollywobbler wrote:I disagree. I have to say, I've not found anybody who will issue me on a classic policy of any kind. Even as a second car, because I don't store my car in a garage. I have been told the driver has to be 21 years old minimum by some companies, and 25 by others. The age of the car seems unimportant in most cases. A Citroen BX is a classic. No quibbles. If anyone says it isn't, then I wouldn't trust my insurance with them.
And back on topic... The car looks bonny. Might be interested actually. Will need something comfortable and frugal for a few months
Will involve selling one of my cars, so I won't make any serious enquiries until I actually can do something... But if it's still around in a couple of weeks then will.
