BX 4x4 Estate (available)
At my (relatively) local Citroen specialist/breakers: A White, 1990 4x4 with 129k, in good overall condition. One owner for the last 15 years. Needs a few things, but speaking to Mark, the guy at Edwards who's doing a few things with my car at the moment, it is apparently nothing major. This is what I understand it needs: A bit of welding to the n/s rear sill - the rest of the car seems solid and surprisingly ding free. A new section of exhaust. It has a 'suspension leak' which isn't serious, but will need fixing. Looked very good in the engine bay, but the spheres weren't exactly new-looking. It recently had a new carb fitted (that was around £300 I understand). The transmission still works as it should, apparently. A decent car, I am told, that with TLC can be brought back to its former glory. Certainly all the bits (except wheel trims) were there and the interior's fine - still has the rear shelf and the load area hasn't seen abuse.
I will check if its got any tax/MOT (but doubt it). I will see if we can get it up and running for a brief drive up the lane tomorrow....
It neds a bloomin' good hoover and a polish. But generally, I thought it was definitely worth saving.
He mentioned £100. I think I'd try and see that go down to £60....
I guess it is a rare model, so might attract some interest.
Now, should I???......

Philip, Lord knows I have far too much here and I`m desperately trying to reduce my fleet but that`s seriously tempting.
Just a personal opinion of course but I think you`d be mad to pass it over, that must be really rare now.
Even at a hundred quid you couldn`t lose out just from parts/scrap though I`d hate to see it scrapped.

theres a little voice in my head flashing up pictures of volve estate DTm car and a BX4x4 and a 16v engine on carbs and every now and again a picture of the available credit on my mastercard!
I think i'm going to wash those stupid ideas out of my head!
But if its seriously going for £60 and doesn't find a home, then god damn it i'll try to!

Go for it Philip and good luck, keep us posted. Rather ironically Andy (Artic Steel) has just been up and was telling me of another one of these rare beasts at a local Citroen specialist.
I now have to do all I can to keep well away from there as I can`t afford, and haven`t got room for, another car

I'm checking it over this afternoon. I've just spoke to the chap at the yard and there are only two thngs that need doing, although he says it's still got am MOT and runs fine. It will need a new exhaust and an LHM leak needs sorting out. The rest is stuff that can be done over time.
So, any advice welcome: How does the 4X4 system work - is it permanent or do you switch it from 2 to 4 wheel drive - I notice the previous owner taped over one side of a switch - is it diff lock?.. I am ignorant about this all having never owned a 4x4.
And does anybody have a 4X4 estate exhaust cluttering up their garage? AS IF!
I guess I can get a pattern one for most of it and get the rear (because I assume it's that bit that's different from standard) fabricated... I think it's been welded/patched up in the past so don't hold out much hope for being able to make a repair.
It'll need an o/s wing mirror (I'll try to get him to throw one in) and the front bumper needs a bit of tidying - but that's only cosmetic.
Anyway I'll post a report later.
It's all rather exciting. Apart from the prospect of it becoming a money pit.
Interestingly we've just taken an allotment. Can't think of a better vehicle for taking onto the site!

4x4 is permanent.Yes the switch is for the diff lock.Do not switch in/out over 20 mph or you may hear a loud bang. Now for the bad news. You can't get a pattern exhaust, due to it's rarity.Ypu will have to get one made up or get in touch with Andy Burnett of CCC fame.Tell him I told you to get in touch. If anybody can source one,he can.Dealers a no no (££££££££££££££££).Make sure the clutch is ok.£800+ to replace.Make sure the transfer box is ok too.Rare and expensive. If there's anything else you need to know just ask.If all is ok,good luck with your purchase

£800 for a new clutch? Can you possibly PM me with contact number for Andy Burnett? I am told the transfer box is fine. How would I tell if it wasn't?
I'm getting a bit nervous of the costs involved with these things.... but I guess where there's a will, there's a way.
I think a lot depends on what paperwork and bills comes with the car...
Update soon.
