White wheels - should I?

Post by mat_fenwick »

Been toying with the idea of painting my wheels white for a while now. I even played around with Photoshop some time ago to make a mock up of how it would look.

They look a bit bright, my photo editing skills aren't brilliant but what is the consensus? I'm still not sure - they don't look as good as I thought, but that could be down to the unrealistic picture...

Hey, Matt. I like the idea of white wheels (like on the C2 sporty jobbie), but spraying standard BX alloys white isn't IMHO the way forward. I like the OZ alloy look, multi-spoke and a lower profile tyre probably. Maybe you could find some multi-spoke 15" alloys in need of a refurb - spray 'em white and get some £25 part worn Michelins (e.g.) on them. If your estate's red is nice and bright, the white will look good - although you might want some subtle (ish) Citroen/Total/Michelin graphics there to reinforce the 'BX Sporting' image... :D 8)

I saw these on Leboncoin.fr earlier being offered for BXs and other PSA cars. Bourbet alloys, €250, would fit and nice and white too! I reckon though you should tosh those ones you've got - good experiment!

I dpn't think I need white wheels to encourage anyone to take the piss and laugh at me...I can manage all by myself!

I guess these are the standard BX Speedlines? So the message getting to me is "White wheels yes, but don't respray my current ones!"

Thing is, I like the wheels I have, I think they're one of the few alloys that suit the BX. Plus I don't have the cash or permission to spend money at the moment, which rules out buying a new set. Ho hum. Maybe I could paint them with white emulsion, easy to get off if they look naff/get me lots of stick. Be different anyway!

You'd be better off spraying them satin black and giving them a red rim ring (ooh er missus) to match your car's bodywork.

God no, as Kitch says, and Bandit, and er, most everyone else that isn't colour blind or a window licker, not now, not ever, ever, ever.

Erm... the trims for the standard Maltese Cross wheeltrims on the St Tropez were painted white (I have a brand-new pair in the parts pile). As for Speedlines....not so sure.
Back on two wheels and pedal power for the moment.

Whs. White might work on some non-standard alloys but on the originals it looks awful.
