BX models

Post by Tourist »

What's the difference between the different models, i.e. which BX TD is top spec, I'm guessing the TXD is the best? Is the difference in the trim, things like fogs?

I have lots of questions, thanks for your help so far!

The BX went through quite a few model designation changes.

For one TZD became TXD in, I think, 1992/93. The Turbos had roughly the equivalent of the GTi. Which means fogs and electric windows all round.

The top of the range T/D was the DTR turbo which was rebadged the TZD Turbo for the 1990 model year (phase 2), it was very similar in spec and looks to the GTi but of course with the TD engine.

The most expensive model was the 16v which is visually different to all other cars by its bodykit and on later Phase 2 cars bespoke bumpers and two tone alloys, inside it had special sports seats and individual trim patterns and was and still is a very fast car with 160bhp per tonne and a 0-60 in under 8 seconds.

There are plenty of BX brochures to buy on ebay or if you go on to www.bx16valve.co.uk theres one you can download on pdf.

RD became TGD which became TXD after the Meteor ltd ed. Cheaper seats, front leccy windows & s/r, not billy basic, but not exactly plush.

DTR became TZD. As above, but with plusher (slightly) seats, all round leccy windows, leccy mirror(s), remote locking (I think), front fogs and one or two other features. The TZD trim is fairly dull, but the TZD Turbo hatch was essentially a diesel GTi and looked different to the other TZ's. Don't think this makes it sporty though, as the GTi isn't exactly a sports machine. All BX's are geared for comfort, apart from the valver which is anything but comfortable once moving (the drone inside the cabin!)

Can you get these cars with factory-fitted sunroof(s). Interested to know as I've noticed a lot of BXs have after market ones fitted.

Bar the RD Turbo (of which I can't remember having seen one for *years*) and *possibly* the TGD Turbo, I believe all BX TD hatch's had a FFSR as standard.

Are you sure?

I don't recall ever seeing a BX with an aftermarket sunroof. As Jonathan says, most of the hatchbacks had one from the factory - certainly almost anything above R spec will.

I've owned one; a 17RD. A few estates have had a toaster hole cut into the roof too, as estates could never have a FFSR. (due to the line of the roof)

TBH I wish there were more non-sunroof BX's around.
this might be a signature
