As I said in the subject line, I was wondering if the long and short nose bonnets are interchangable. I have a rusty steel bonnet on my TGD and want to replace it with the plastic one on my TGE. They look the same but I suppose I am asking 1) what is the difference (I can't work out which part is the "nose" on the bonnet) and 2) if they are different, will the plastic one fit the TGD?
Thanks!
Rob

Rob the bonnets are basically the same (Hinges/fitting of ) apart from the following which is what your asking to be clarified !
The 'Nose' bit it just what's between the head lamps (The length of the lip below the horizontal line on the leading edge of the bonnet) if it's got NO horizontal grill bars it should have the long nose type and standard Mk2 fitment was for a TGD (As your BX) should be the long nose type, (check this link for Roverman's BX) for example:-

The normal short nose bonnet has two grill bars TZD/GTi/TXD, (Check this link for Kitch's GTi) for example:-
http://bxclub.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php ... sc&start=0
Or this link for a TZD Hurricane, which can only have a Short nose bonnet as this will have a transfer duct built into the under side of the bonnet liner for the AC/IC (Air Cooled Inter Cooler) but you can not see this with the bonnet closed obviously ! :-
http://bxclub.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10116
For a 'Hybrid' version check this link out:-
http://bxclub.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10107
I hope this explains/covers all Long Nose / Short Nose bonnet scenario's
BTW what colour is your TGD ? if your TGE is not the same colour as the TGD ?
(I have two short nose bonnets available in plastic, one is white (with black chevrons) and one is Metallic Grey (Aluminum finish Chevrons) complete with a two bar grill to match !
PM me if you or anyone else needs one.
Thanks.

There IS a small but important way in which steel and plastic bonnets are different.
I can't remember which way round it is but one type (plastic, I think) is secured by nuts to the hinge assembly, while the other type is secured using bolts.
I got caught by this trying to swap over a plastic bonnet for a steel one - but there is a solution: the hinges unfasten too. Swap both bonnet AND hinge assembly over.

Back on two wheels and pedal power for the moment.
