16v 12volt accessory socket = DIN 4165?

Post by RobC »

Hello

Just wondered what the posh 12v power socket between the headphone sockets in the rear of the more upmarket models was. Is it a DIN 4165?

Need to charge my iphone and light a cig at the same time...!

Yes, it is. A better contact arrangement IMO, as the connection is much more positive. But of little use if you have chargers with a built in lighter plug...what I've done is get a 4 way lighter socket adaptor and put a dual purpose DIN plug on the end so I can use it in the BX and also transfer it between vehicles.

This would also be an idea? In particular for PSP-playing youngsters in the back seat?

An American website but gives an idea of the variety of adaptor leads that can be purchased for this socket:

I swapped the DIN socket for a standard cigarette lighter type to run a cold box. Only problem was there wasn't enough depth for the new socket to sit flush with the housing. Cured with a 1 1/8 in spacer ring from a bicycle headset (modern A-Head type), which fits perfectly.
