He says it runs ok and the suspension works fine.....
I admit it may need more than an oil change and a set of spheres but look what you would end up with. it is after all 25 year old and pretty much spot on bodywork wise. An opportunity that you rarely get now.

Apparently there are only 12 of these left! (According to howmanyleft.com). I though the computer was one of those security code devices, like the man has in transporter

Nope, its not an immobiliser, the early GT's had such a device, which was removed and substituted for a clock for the 86MY change, when they fitted the black interior, side repeaters, side stripes an dropped theGT badges fron the front wingssaintjamesy89 wrote:I though the computer was one of those security code devices, like the man has in transporter

The current owner bought it from Patrick Rugg in 2007 who bought it off ebay of the original owners family. Patrick recommissioned/MOT'ed it etc but looks like it has never left the garage since it was sold to the current owner.
This car HAS been to a CCC rally, in 2007 when we did the big 25th celeration so some of you may have seen it before.
I remember it now as it is the one where the rear 1/4 windows have been painted the same colour as the car (you can check this by looking through the rear windows of the 16v parked next to it) as they had gone the usual opaque colour, I also remember it being in excellent condition (then)

I'm a bit confused, how come the date of liability that you've posted up Tim, says 1996, yet the car is on the road in 2007?
Interior looks lovely, exterior, can't tell. It's got potential, but its still a steep price for a car that will need a fair bit of re-commissioning even from 2007, let alone from 1996
Pipes will be rusty, it needs a battery, the brakes will be seized, the fuel will be off, lhm change, it needs a full service & has anything else just seized like starter motor, carb etc???
Its deffo one to go & see in the flesh to see how much actual work is required, & it would need to be running to fully realise that price. Rare yes, but not worth that sort of money imho, however, if someone is prepared to pay that sort of money, i'll certainly not criticise them.
What i don't get is, if its that good in the 1st place, get a fresh mot on it & then you'd realise even more money, or does the seller know that the cost of recomissioning won't be realised in the value of the car
Anyway's, i look on interested in whether anyone is bold enough to take this one on, i hope so as it would be great to see back on the road
Just my thoughts & opinions of course, which can be disregarded if you see fit

Some people loose interest in cars, we see it all the time on here and then cant be bothered with them, sometimes you end up with a peach that needs little work, and sometimes you end up with a moneypit.

After speaking to Patrick's son he haid the car was roadworthy in 2007 and looks to not have turned a wheel since (I think it was delivered to the garage by trailer) but did have a slight blow from the exhaust manifold.
The next owner will need to do a full service, cambelt and probably spheres etc but who knows, they could fall lucky.

I'm going to see it next Friday (10th), just spoke to the Mark the owner, he's a lovely bloke and obviously a Citroen nut!
I'll take some piccies, it does come with an incredible amount of spares.

Just found a very informative website devoted to the GT, it's in french but babelfish has a very good webpage translator.
It's even got power figures etc, an uploaded instruction manual for the trip computer and the owners handbook!

That would depend on how handy the owner is, and how much spare time they have. If you don't have the skills or time to do the work yourself, you would very quickly spend the value of the finished car on labour charge alone if it needs (for example) spheres, exhaust, belts, fluids, tyres and a repipe. What i don't get is, if its that good in the 1st place, get a fresh mot on it & then you'd realise even more money, or does the seller know that the cost of recomissioning won't be realised in the value of the car

Im told there is no fluid leaks so who knows they may have been done, or like my own GT, when it was rust treated when new they did the pipes too!.citsncycles wrote:

I still think its worth a punt, a cambelt on something like this isnt that bad, 2 hours labour I would say to any mechanic worth his salt, and the kit costs about £40, spheres are £20 a corner (some are supplied with the car) a 10 minute job on the front (even I can do them) and the rears are not a big job either.
He tells me the rear arms are spot and sit nice and straight.

Cambelt is simple job, see my write up which was put in the FAQhere.
IMO I doubt if there is much needs doing to that car. I would do the rear arms anyway as well as the cambelt (which is also in the FAQ, which I folloed when I did mine). I doubt if the spheres would be a priority (and they're essy anyway) and I also doubt if the pipes have corroded ....I know it happens, but usually from moisture when the car is stored "down" outside on a tarmac driveway, this one looks to have been stored on concrete in a garage so there won't have been much moisture IMO.
I just wish they would MOT it, then someone can get a train down there and drive it home ..... I would, worth every penny of £950 if it was ready to drive away ....literally a steal.
