Building your dream BX
I think we've had 'dream spec' threads before but I'm aiming for one that focuses on usability. Yes, a V6 BX running LPG and four-wheel drive (with a fromage-free transfer box) would be pleasant, but not very realistic.
I love cars of all types, but as an everyday hack, I keep coming back to BXs. The downsides get to me after a while and I run off and try something else for a bit, only to come back to the BX. I just love the looks, the handling and the comfort. Few cars offer all three (2CVs manage it!).
But there are things that annoy me. Starting with the wipers. If this is my dream BX then I'm sorry but that single wiper will have to go. It may work well with the looks, but I want two wipers with better screen coverage. Hopefully that way I won't have an unswept block in front of me and won't get water running up the screen after the wiper has disappeared back to the other side. A proper Wash system is essential too and while we're at it, some proper column stalks with a flick-wipe option. I'm getting fed up with Mk1 sliders and I really dislike the Mk2 stalks. Maybe later Peugeot-style ones could be fitted. Perhaps even with variable intermittent settings. Perfect.
Doors. I'd like doors that shut with something other than a clang. I'd also like doors that open even when it's frosty. Is that too much to ask?
Heater. I'd like a Fast setting that makes my hair move - with an option to recirculate the air. I'd also like the centre vents to be switchable to a fresh air feed when I want heat on the windscreen but fresh air to the face. Cars used to have this!
That should do it. Perhaps (not with the Mk1) I should try and build my perfect BX. I reckon some of the wiper issues could be overcome by fitting a spoiler at the base of the windscreen to direct air over where the wiper stops and how hard could it be to fit later stalks?

My dream BXs would be the two I've got (although a gti auto and a tidy mk1 would be nice). I'd drop them all off at the best body shop/Citroen specialist I could find, ask them to do EVERYTHING they need, and to give me a ring when they all look brand spanking new. Quite what I'd actually drive after that lot - I've no idea
Two wipers!? er . . . no.

Right now, one with some actual space in the engine compartment and a non-rounded off bolt on the battery retainer.
Alternatively, I want to travel back in time to late 1998 and revisit the "I don't like my Renault, if you need a new car why can't we sell that and I keep the Hurricane?" high-level discussion and win!
I LIKE the single wiper. I suspect I'm really gonna miss air-con when the summer arrives though ...

my valver had twin washer jets mounted on the bonnet and they worked really well.
So I would include them on my white with black trim
Supercharged 16 valve auto estate with black leather interior and 7 seat conversion,
It would also have gutteman alloys with black centres
Cavity covers, splitter, headlight protectors, a tailblazer, four electric windows, electric mirrors, aircon, sunroof, sun roof deflectorand door wind deflectors.
The car would be derusted , resprayed, repiped, resphered, new uprated brakes, stainless exhaust
Have I missed anything

I can honestly say there is nothing really I would change on the BX, im so used to it now I appreciate its idiosyncrasies. I love the single wiper, single spoke wheel and covered wheel arch.
I wouldnt mind a slighly more powerful engine in the TZI and maybe a 5 speed auto, but thats about your lot.

For everyday driving, I'd like a Hurricane TZD turbo diesel in triton Green with dark cream/beige leather interior with complementing two tone (black and 'dark beige') interior trim. I'd want a 1.9 or 2.1TD for extra woomph. If the latter I'd want it as an automatic. Air con would be nice as would a rear roof light as in estates (useful for rear passengers). And that's about it. Oh, I would like a pair of cup holders somewhere in the front and rear...

Hmm, I think i'd like a TRS spec mk1 14 (TU engine) with twin carbs and a turbo (plenty of loverly induction noise please!). Exhaust wise, i'd like twin rear exit small ovals - as long as it isn't too noisy. Wheels i'd like black metallic TG style trims, to complement the pearlescent champagne gold paint - no mudflaps. Bumpers would be black to match the wheel trims and i's like those very funky BX stickers that go on the lower front and rear doors. Inside would have to be velour seats and thick pile carpets in slate grey, with wood inserts (like the C6 has, like them wood bits) and a darker grey dash. Aircon too of course and a bloody good sound system, with a wee bit of bass for fun.

Ooo I forgot about air-con. It does compromise originality though for a Hurricane or a TGD. Originality or air-con? Originality or air-con? Ooo I don't know - this is doin' my 'ed in!!
There's something to be said for making the best of what you've got - things get REALLY complicated otherwise i find!
