1992 GTi metallic grey 72000 miles - NOW SOLD
Ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0857392174
Hey folks,
i've been very quiet on the forum for a while, largely because since getting this good GTi and getting the garage to do most of the work, it's become a solid useable everyday car rather than a head-scratching project!
Alas, after a year of owning her, it is time to sell. It seems absurd putting money into a machine like this and not keeping it but there you go. Necessity has dictated we get a 7 seater for my partner's pre-school - after-school pickups, (yes i did try and throw the CX familiale option into the mix!) - so now with 4 cars, one has to go and i have two BXs. This is the most sellable car and will hopefully enable me to sort out the scruffy but fun white 16TZS - needs a new engine.
This GTi is variously described as immaculate, stunning, like a 4-5 year old car (mechanics looking underneath). The paintwork and interior are in particularly good nick, and it goes and stops really well, the gearchange is a delight and the car feels 'tight'. I have had quite a few jobs done to bring it to it's best and it must be one of the best out there.
The car will be sold in Nottingham with 12 months MOT, 6 months tax, and can be viewed all day wednesday and thursday next week just before the auction ends.
These are the good and bad bits from the ebay ad, but there is much more info and service history etc on the ad itself.
Good bits:
Little or no rust, no sign of any at door hinges, rear door shuts, boot, or under air filter or LHM tank. The car goes really well, the paintwork is stunning apart from a couple of scratches which i hope to detail in the photos this weekend, along with evidence of rust-free areas. The engine and gearbox are a delight and the car still feels very 'tight' and new. It is fitted with a stainless steel exhaust from the downpipe onwards. Everything electrical works apart from the things in 'bad bits' below. The tyres are all good with plenty of tread left. The battery is strong. All the instrument switches look very new and not faded or worn. As can be seen from the service history all the big jobs have been done (rear arm bearings, Octopus, LHM fluid, new spheres.
Bad bits:
The wheel trims in the photo i want to keep for my other BX, and i have some cheapo halfords ones i will put on to replace. Again, photos to come.
paintwork is scratched on the door bottoms by the seat-belt buckle on the driver's side. It comes with touch-up paint in the correct factory colour. (photos by this weekend)
It uses a little oil - I've kept an eye on it and have probably topped it up with 0.5L every 3000 miles
Speedo is broken - havn't got round to fixing. i'll have a look at it this weekend but can't promise anything
The dash bulb behind the oil level indicator has gone. The clock will not do it's illumination thing at night but is visible during the day. I havn't looked into this.
The car is due a cambelt change (last changed in 2004 at 50000 miles, so 8 years old and 25k on it)
My ebay listing has gone a bit haywire - i tried to update the description but it's duplicated the whole text, does anyone know how to fix that?
Anyway take a look, obviously BXClub members get preference and i'd rather see if go to a good home.
my number is on the listing for any questions.

Re: For Sale 1992 GTi metallic grey 72000 miles Nottingham
That looks like one of the nicest BX's i've seen for a while, the exact same as my old one sans speedlines, but yours looks in much better nick than mine did which was over 4yrs ago now. Hopefully you'll get a decent price which it deserves & hopefully to someone who'll look after the car. All the best, that is superb

It does look sparkling doesn't it? Looks like a TZS/D with those trims to me though (much as I love them), needs speedlines to go above perfection!

You can buy it now for £1200 as per the CAR & CLASSIC advertghaddon1701 wrote:I hope to be in the running for this. Now I need to decide how much I want to spend. Gorgeous car!

Max, I take it you have put a reserve on the E-Bay listing but it doesn't seem to have a 'Light outs' (Reserve met/not met in the listing) ?
All the best with the sale and I hope you get what you want for it, as its a very nice example !

Re: For Sale 1992 GTi metallic grey 72000 miles - NOW SOLD
That's right buy it now for £1200 I've had a few offers already.
I kind of figured it should break £1000 on eBay hopefully a bit more.
I'll keep checking on here, so if anyone has any questions..
I'd rather it go to a good home.
Cheers

Re: 1992 GTi metallic grey 72000 miles - NOW SOLD
I hope to be able to indulge my car obsession more in a few years when the kids are older and things aren't so busy, I do really enjoy the satisfaction of doing stuff to them and enjoying the way different cars drive, especially old citroens. For now though practicality rules and I don't have a barn or garage or even space for two extra cars.
