Maybe it'll be like the other one, and slow down for several days before a vicious last minute sniping war. Edge of seat stuff!

The car looks lovely, so it will be a case of keeping your nerve and hoping that the winning bidder follows through and doesn't turn out to be a tw@.

I have not had much experience of selling through ebay (did it once with reasonable success) but it seems to me to bring an extra level of chance that can leave the seller feeling let down and, perhaps, enraged. I recently sold a car by using the "Classified Ad" listing option; that worked for me because it gave me the coverage, and I had a very clear idea of what price I was willing to accept. In the end, the purchaser was really local but I wouldn't have found him through the other media - I tried Autotrader with no success.

Good luck with the sale!

Rob

Whoever wins this car can rest assured that everything that has been done properly. As the listing explains, Ian really looks after his cars. In my opinion, better than any dealer's warranty! Anyone looking for a really tidy TZD should be limbering-up their bidding finger.

On the subject of buying and selling on ebay, I have had mixed experiences. As a seller, all my buyers have come through with the money (happily) but when I bought my Terrano, the listing completely omitted to mention some fairly major issues. Had I viewed beforehand, I wouldn't have put in a bid.

The advantage of the classified ad is that there is no end time and buyers know the kind of money they need to come up with. You have more time to arrange viewings and make offers, so it's just like the usual car-buying process. The down-side is that the seller can wait a long time before they make a sale. From recollection, the cost of a classified ad works out cheaper than an auction listing.

I really hate to say it AND I am utterly disgusted with myself but I have now sold the car outside of ebay.

As some of you know my personal life has been and continues to be pretty tough both emotionally and financially. Somebody made me an offer that was ludicrous beyond belief and I simply could not afford to turn it down.

My serious heartfelt apologies go out to anyone interested.

Youre car to sell as you want Ian, dare we ask what the ludicrous offer was? Bx prices are on the rise which is good for us owners.

Given the purchaser is a business, I do not intend to disclose the price, suffice to say it was significantly in excess of the white TXD recently sold.

Happy days, enjoy all those reddies. It was a far superior car to that white one so you deserve every penny.

If it's gone to a business, does that mean that we can expect to see it advertised again somewhere?

Maybe at some point in the future but the purchaser has bought it for a genuine business use.

Well, fair play to you. May not be ideal timing for you (sorry to hear about gloomy tidings) but was ideal time for the market. AND you've denied Ebay some of your hard-earned cash by finishing early. :)

Blimey, 12mths ago this type of thing would never have happened in a million years. What is going on? I find it very strange that the BX has suddenly gone from modern classic with no real value to suddenly serious wedge. Well done for selling Ian, & for getting what sounds like a great buyer who was very keen to secure the car.

Hmm, i must get my lowish mileage TZD Turbo back on the road soon :)

It's just the way the classic car market works. Cars are new, cars are used, cars are bangers (where we've been for quite some time now) then interest develops. Valvers have always had a bit of a following, but the next ones to follow are, unsurprisingly, the turbo diesels.

Most cars in top condition and with good miles can fetch top money. Not all - my 37k mile Bluebird being a case in point. A desirable model with good miles and an enthusiast owner is what the people with the money really want.

I reckon lesser petrols and lower spec models will not get too drawn into the price rise. While top money is being paid for some BXs, it's worth remembering that there's still a lowly 17RD on here for £200 with MOT. The days of the cheap BX are far from over.

Ian's example was very sorted so probably worth the two grand or so. It's still not BIG money, still within the depreciation margin for a new car for example - we're just used to three or even two digit figures!

My kids would soon make cactus of any minter BX that I should have and plus I like 'patina' ( also known as decay/rust) and something that needs fixing.

Glad you got a good whack for it Ian.
