Re: ST TROPEZ ON EBAY
I hope it fetches a decent price. These are huge fun to drive, even with no PAS.

Re: ST TROPEZ ON EBAY
I haven't got PAS on my TGD and much as I love it I can see why people might want to . . . er, pass on a non-PAS car (if you'll pardon the pun); parking is a total pain in the arse.

Need, no. Want, yes, because...patersom10 wrote:who really needs power steering ?
As for being huge fun to drive, yes, but everything needs to happen at a leisurely pace. My plan to slot the power steering on my 'new' subframe into the St Tropez would have been a go'er, but for the fact that there weren't the necessary mounting points on the TU engine to accept the new pipework and Rob was worried that a bespoke solution would be unreliable and possibly fracture a pipe over time. In the light of that possibility, I figured it was fine to carry on with the mandatory arm exercises.Paul296 wrote:parking is a total pain in the arse.

Re: ST TROPEZ ON EBAY
I think the TU gets away with just being light enough. I wouldn't fancy a non-PAS diesel in pretty much any car - though I did once own an LDV400 beavertail with no PAS! Now that really WAS hard work. Especially when loaded up. Nose down on a hill.

Re: ST TROPEZ ON EBAY
That sounds mightily complicated. Depends whether the ZX PAS is completely isolated from any other hydraulics, too. Nah, clearly its time to take some man up pills and try to convince folk up north I'm not a complete southern jessie!Tim Leech wrote:I guess you couldnt fit one from a ZX wit the same engine and run it as a seperate circuit?

Re: ST TROPEZ ON EBAY
Personally I'd quite happily rip out the PAS in my Athena. My old 14RE was fine without it even though it was the earlier 150C engine. In fact I much prefered it to steer as you could 'feel' the road properly without the extra damping in the PAS. The old 80's Astras' were good for that too, hold them on wheel spin whilst navigating a roundabout no problem. Mk3 Escorts were so badly designed for geometry they did your arm muscles in on tightening bends....
BX diesels need the PAS, just weight on the front I'm afraid. Good luck with the St Tropez the lack of PAS should not put anyone off unless they are lacking normal strength. They are not heavy to steer.
The lack of feedback through some of the electronic PAS systems is I'm sure the cause of some RTAs'.
I do not like the feel on the 2009 C4 1.6 petrol model. It's Ok when really cornering but when making a small adjustment on a motorway the initial movement requires more effort than having no PAS on the 14 RE and much more than in my Athena. Progress...

I just think the angle of the photo makes the St Tropez look like a half-size model. Not so much a laugh, more a chuckle.Sweet 16 (valve) wrote:No offence, but I can't be the only one who got a lol out of the 'man and machine in perfect harmony'-type pic here]

Re: ST TROPEZ ON EBAY
^ lol, maybe mate!
What's he looking at anyway? Are there some females over to the right taking an interest purely because of the BX?!
Can BX owners on here comment if having a BX makes them more of a stud in the eyes of the ladies?!

Re: ST TROPEZ ON EBAY
I suspect the answer is 'no', and there is a strong possibility that aficionados of a 20+ year-old car will be perceived as sad old bastards who lack the testosterone to sustain any lasting interest. This includes valvers, as sadly most ladies probably wouldn't be well-versed in the subtle differences to give a s%$t!Sweet 16 (valve) wrote:Can BX owners on here comment if having a BX makes them more of a stud in the eyes of the ladies?!
