Unless you buy certain aftermarket jobbies a few inches too long, then thy on inner wheel shoulder on full lock. Can't recall what makes are good/bad.

Re: handbrake cables mk2
the usual cause of the cable rubbing on the wheel rim, is the support loop attached the the susp strut has been bent outwards away from the strut, simple fix just give the loop a bash with an-ammer to get it tighter against the strut,BX Bandit wrote:Unless you buy certain aftermarket jobbies a few inches too long, then thy on inner wheel shoulder on full lock. the only draw back with this procedure is if carried out to often the support breaks of at its base,
nout a buzz of mig wont sort though

Re: handbrake cables mk2
Yup I don't have any lug one side of mine - honest guv it wasn't me! Bit of coathanger holding it for now!
The newer cables are better with PTFE? coating (at least a slippery pale grey surface to the inner) as they don't hold water in so avoiding freezing the handbrake on in the winter. I think all 3 of my BXs' have suffered from this particular trait, until the cables were changed. When changing I put a string on the inner end so you can pull back through all the guides. Oh and a small clamp may be needed to get it on to the caliper correctly as its a pretty tight fit if memory serves.

Re: handbrake cables mk2
Am i right in thinking the later Xantia's have a final guid loop that is lighted with a plastic gromet? Maybe this would be a good addition to extend life?
If the cable is working, and you just need to get it through an MOT, i would just slide a length of regular garden hose over it. I do this on new handbrake cables and it stops the outer sheath failing as fast.

I never thought of bending the guide, but In my experience, the only ones that rub are the longer ones, I never had a problem with the shorter onescitronut wrote:the usual cause of the cable rubbing on the wheel rim, is the support loop attached the the susp strut has been bent outwards away from the strut, simple fix just give the loop a bash with an-ammer to get it tighter against the strut,BX Bandit wrote:Unless you buy certain aftermarket jobbies a few inches too long, then thy on inner wheel shoulder on full lock.
