i now need some one to get in me car to say a tzd can go faster than the club says me number is 07722726282

The fact is this, my TZD estate goes faster on the clock than citroen ever claimed (on a private road officer)
but in reality they will be reading incorrectly even on a standard normally calibrated speedo, my satnav says that the speedo is out by nearly 10mph at normal motorway speed (over reading) I would say that at higher speed its probably even more innacurate.

Just my experience you understand (having owned about 10-15 BX's over the years this appears to be normal)

Most speedos read over slightly, if they read under the manufacturer could get in bother for speeding fines etc.

Best way to test is use a satnav.

what Stinky said. I'm not sure I get your whole speed issue citroenman. So what does your speedo clock and rpm guage say at full pelt?

It appears it is, what amazes me is how someone cannot grasp the fact that what the speedo says is not the speed they are actually travelling at. It seems a simple concept.

My old CX pallas speedo regularly told me i was doing a 140mph, although verified by a car travelling alongside with a known benchmark speedo showed it was actually doing 75mph ish at that point.

Or for more info, track down the test Citroen did with a BX DTR and a CX DTR Turbo2 in about 1988. Real measured and recorded speeds of a BX Turbo diesel. (it wasnt any more than 112mph i believe)

if you have a working revcounter then you could work it out from there, at 3000rpm in a turbo D you should be doing about 78mph, at 4000rpm it will be a illegal (and probably quite noisy) 104!. Valvers are easy at exactly 20mph per 1000rpm .

if you have a working revcounter then you could work it out from there, at 3000rpm in a turbo D you should be doing about 78mph, at 4000rpm it will be a illegal (and probably quite noisy) 104!. Valvers are easy at exactly 20mph per 1000rpm .

I'm pretty sure the td is 70 (on the speedo) at 3000 but happy to be corrected

I believe Citroens official claim was 112mph? I believe this is the speed with the engine revving out at about 4800rpm. The 1769cc TD's were restricted to this for some reason. However the 1905cc TD engines rev to 5100rpm. But the 1.9's only ever made it into fat overweight cars anyway so they don't go any faster. Except the ZX. They weigh about the same as a BX and they go like stink in TD form.

My TZD does an indicated 80mph at 3000rpm and the sat-nav tells me I'm doing 77/78mph, oddly at this speed the needle twitch settles down and I can get a clear reading.

Driving at night with only the revs to go by due to dashlights I go by this:
60mph - 2000/2200rpm
70mph - 2500/2600rpm
80mph - 3000rpm
