I should add that BX are really good freewheeling cars. I know that is technically to not be in full control of the car, but again, driving two strokes the larger types come with freewheel fitted. I am used to it. So Wyke Hill, Stow on the Wold, for instance, you can hit 90 mph. That is unusual as normally there will be something in the way, or a distraction requiring a little dab of brakes.
Yes the grace of the twin choke carb, if its a match for the car, is you can drive on the first venturi. Really you ought to know when the second comes in to drive well, anyway. I found the 1.6 Auto was rather boring in that mode though. I await a trial in the later engined 1.4. Seems certain folk like them, so it has to be done. Might happen sooner as new treatment is making my leg a lot better. Which also aids economy, as it used to get tired on a run, and my control a bit sloppy. (oh er, missus! )

That's exactly how I work it.
I know that M27 bit you hypothetically used for BAH.....now going down the hill, it might hypothetically achieve a greater speed......
What does she give on the Dyno?
Depends on the entry speed. I've bounced it off the limiter in 5th gear before, but you need a steep-enough hill to be in with a chance. BX aerodynamics aren't very good, and the valver is the worst I think bouncing on 5th with everything original spec is about 142mph. Mirrors and wiper don't half move about a lot doing that though
Dyno it usually gives 155-158bhp. Did crack 161bhp once.

Right on the claimed output, or so close as to ignore,.... excellent. Now when I've re lapped the valves on the old 1.6....it might better that 72 brake, if I'm lucky, only 75k on the motor. Not sure my engine has ever seen even 5.5k revs on the road!, maybe I'll try it bedding in the new gasket.
I've never seen a Cd figure for the valver though, so it could well be worse than a stock hatch ironically
The original claims were around 0.31 to 0.32 which is good for the time it was designed. Audi had the 100 which claimed 0.30 Cd, I recall. The C4 (04-10 vintage) is claimed at 0.28 Cd, and I belive a lot of the improvement is in glass fitting, especially the side windows, and screening the wipers. With modern glass fitting retro fitted to a BX and with a shielded wiper, it would not surprise me if it equalled or bettered the C4.....
Now of course there were things with 4 wheels way back in the 30's with Cd of 0.27........
Unless your on empty motorways, weight is more important than aerodynamics. Modern cars are porkers.

Just to slightly redress the fuel consumption balance for the 2024 miles covered in the Challenge from Dover to Andorra and then back to Gillingham my GTi auto managed 33.5mpg which compares well with the average over the last 60,000 miles of 29.0mpg. The most economical part of the trip was not surprisingly the mountain free Dover - Gien stretch at 36.9mpg and the least, surprisingly, Normandy - home at a poor 30.8mpg. I thought the hillier legs of the trip would really hammer the fuel consumption due to the auto box but they seemed to be around 33/34 mpg.

Unfortunately we dony have the roads over here to truly measure the BX economy. My TXD I am happy with 10-11 MPL which compares to the petrol 19TRS of 10-11 KPL. Overall I am satisfied with it on long journeys the only time I am not is on some the long hills.
