BX variants

There you can find a few of them: http://www.bxworld.net/joomla/index.php ... es-modeles. In frech, of course. There's quite many derivatives and I'm sure not even the manufacturer knows how many, as they were also badgeg by the local importer in many countries .

Never even knew the BX Dyana existed, a 2 door BX estate/hatch/van, lovely looking car, i would like one. I guess they were never produced in any great quantity, what a shame.

I didnt fully realise just how many different types there were! The more time I spend on this forum and other sites searching for BX bits and pieces, the more models keep cropping up. So I thought I would google it and was actually a little surprised that there wasn't a comprehensive list anywhere (that I could find).

I wonder how many different types are owned by all the forum members? I bet that would be a fairly comprehensive list on its own!!

Worth remembering that the BX had a long 12 year model life, with one major facelift - in '85. That's long btw, a lot of cars are from 4 to 8 year cycle to replacement. Especially towards the end of the BX a lot of small trim changes etc etc were done to try and keep it selling as a 'fresh' car.... There are actualy quite a few small upgrades that are normal too, and you don't notice much til you have to take things apart.....

Apart from stuff like Landrovers, it is hard to think of many cars from the 80s' on that were in production so long. Also consider the '94 crash regs are what killed the BX, along with the 2CV, in Europe at least. Other manufacturers had the same problem.

Yes, quite a good car too, especially after the 'aero' improvements to stop it rolling over.... usually around 70mph!. Some good work on it, notably the independent rear suspension and rear drive system. I've seen a full cutaway model of one, chassis, engine, transmission, drive etc etc. The Escort 3 was an absolute dog IMHO, the steering one of the worst of modernish cars. The Sierra was way, way better and handled pretty well with a low C of G. I quite like it as a car. Really odd, the Transit 2 was a pig handler as well in cross winds, loaded and skeletal brakes.....as I found out, fortunately without crashing it whilst 12 people up!. The Sherpa of the day pissed on it for brakes and handling, could happily do 15+mph more than the Transit and in better safety above 60mph in strong winds on open roads.....

Be grateful the BX 16v did not get the humingus spoiler the XR4i had....... otherwise your 'Press' TV ejot would have really taken the michael...

That's a good point, I guess given the life span (and multiple trim changes etc towards the end) I bet citroen would probably struggle to list them all.

I've also noticed some different specs within the same model range. For example, my tgd has a rev counter and black dashboard, but I have seen other tgd's with a clock fitted and a grey dash instead.

I'm assuming that citroen gave options within each variant as well? Which probably makes it impossible to keep track of!!

Your TGD may have had a replacement dashboard fitted, as far as i'm aware the lower spec models never came with the rev counter. The non uk models again have slightly different specs as well.

That's interesting, my dad bought this car when it was four years old and as far as I can remember the rev counter was always there. Either he fitted it or it must have been played with very early on in its life.

One things for sure, I'm certainly not the first person to remove the clocks as one of the bottom lugs were broken and a few of the bulb holders were mismatched. Of course It's definitely possible that they have been changed.

Does anyone know if citroen kept a 'build record' for each car back then, showing what it was originally manufactured with or is that practice too much of a modern thing? It would be nice to know as much about the cars history as possible.

The very last bx 19tgd indeed had a black dash, but grey seats and door panel inserts, Rev counter was standard on all manual models.

Ive access to the citroen sevice system which has certain info. The only spec i can see on mine is that it had metallic paint, the engine and gearbox type along with power steering fitted.
I guess if you contact citroen they will have more. As tbats what you have to do to get key nos etc. But there is a charge. It may be worth contacting uk customer aervices to see if they will provide you with any info.
More modern built cars have everything bar key nos and immobiliser codes listed.
The parts system doesnt even sort for individual vin nos on bx's

The nearest dealer to me won't even boot up his computer for spares with the individual 4 No individual ID inside passenger door. The whole VIN or he won't bother, oddly enough I use a Pug dealer who is pretty good even if slightly further away... actually I'll give them credit, they are very good, and helpful on the engine parts and spares for my 1.6 petrol. Also quite a few of the OE parts are very reasonably priced and cheaper than t'bay...
