Fitting rear speakers Estate

I want to fit some rear speakers in the estate but dont want to cut holes in the parcel shelf or use the original mounted units as they are rubbish, i have a decent Sony head unit and have sourced some Pioneer speakers for the front which will fit the standard mounts, the rears could be mounted in the doors but again i dont want to be cutting holes in the trim, has anyone got any suggestions or pointers, i have looked at flat speakers that could fit under the front seats but these are quite pricey.

As you've found, there isn't really anywhere obvious to put them except the original mountings. If you got some really good quality speakers and spent some time making sure the mountings were properly insulated against rattles, that would be a big step forward. Otherwise the only real options are in the tailgate trim or in the side trims, but with either of those they'll be muffled with the parcel shelf fitted.
How about mounting them in the parcel shelf, but trying to cut through the plastic only, leaving the carpet intact - that way they wouldn't be so visible from outside the car.

What were the Pioneer units you found to fit the front doors please?

Fronts are just standard sizes aren't they? I've never had any problem getting speakers to fit.

i have looked at flat speakers that could fit under the front seats but these are quite pricey.

So you are after a subwoofer? Because no speaker will give anything else but bass from under the seat. Throw a 10 liter subwoofer and a little amp to the trunk and fix it with a belt so it doesn't move if in an accident.

I also don't want to take up any space in/on the boot floor. Ideally I want to keep everything as it should be without making any (or little) modifications to the interior.

In that case I reckon you'best off investing some cash in really good little speakers for the original mounts, and some time and ingenuity in stopping the bloody things rattling....

Something I've toyed with is to blank off the boot side cubby holes, and fit some better speakers in there. That way you're not cutting difficult to replace trim, but the problem of muffling still applies if you use the parcel shelf.
