I am letting off steam here about a bad run of luck with my TD Hurricane.
Last year I took it off the road to do an engine swap after having done a bit of engine reconning on the replacement engine with new main and big end bearings, piston rings, oil seals, a head job with valve stem seals and a new clutch too. All went well for a while when it was put back to use until the new clutch started slipping. Investigation showed that this was due to an oil leakage onto the flywheel and clutch. Eventually the clutch refused to bite at all so I had to strip the gearbox out again and found that the new crankshaft oil seal had failed.
So with another new clutch installed and the oil leak fixed it ran for a couple of months until the clutch started obstructing gearchanges and then it became progressively worse until it would not disengage at all and adjusting the cable made things worse as a rather nasty screeching noise was produced when the pedal was depressed.
I am depressed too 3 clutches in less than 6 months has tried my legendary patience with BXs and once I have fixed it it will have to go.

Re: GRRRR when will there be good BX news ?
I too have suffered bad luck with another Citroen, my Relay van, in the last 6 months has had EGR valve go, then the catalytic convertor cracked, then the fuel pressure control solenoid, and most recently the bottom crank pulley and then the Dual mass flywheel, sadly the van has got me by the b******s as I need it for work and cannot afford to replace it, such is life but not sure I can grin and bear the expense much more.
Still, MOT next month just to push the bank balance further into the red.
Surely not much else can go wrong with it now.
Oops did I speak too soon.
Touch wood fingers crossed and all that.

Sounds like a dodgy release bearing. I've never been unlucky enough to have a new one die within 6 months before though. Was it a decent clutch?

Perhaps you need to change your 'location' on your Avatar Jaba ?

Mebbe Rich, I will find out in a month or two when I get the gearbox off AGAIN.Kitch wrote:Sounds like a dodgy release bearing. I've never been unlucky enough to have a new one die within 6 months before though. Was it a decent clutch?
It was a branded clutch, Sachs or LUK I am not 100% sure which.

Re: GRRRR when will there be good BX news ?
Certainly does Jaba, I can do most of the spanner work myself as I did with the EGR valve, crank pulley and cat, luckily the DMF was replaced by a friend of mine for the sum of £200 I also had a new clutch put in at same time the total bill still come in at £750, but when it comes to engine management probs like the fuel pressure solenoid which can only be diagnosed with specialist equipment it becomes very expensive. Sadly the case with modern motors and I guess that's why there are 5-6 year old cars on the scrap heap.
To be fair to my bx it's been much less trouble than the van in the 10 years ive had it, and also has more than double the mileage of the Relay. I suppose chucking money at an 8 year old van is not cost effective but I have no choice.

Re: GRRRR when will there be good BX news ?
Grrrrrrr again. This TD has been put back into action through the summer. During which it suffered a split driveshaft gaiter a split strut return pipe, a failed ABS sensor and the fuel stop valve stopped working. This was all in the space of only 700 miles. And now the effing new clutch has started slipping again. This will be three new clutches in the space of 2000 miles.
This one was a Transmech, still under guarantee and the previous one was a Sachs.
How I long for the good old days when clutches lasted at least 100,000 miles.

This is not the clutches.
There are clearly mitigating faults!

I was hoping for some sympathy actually. I know why they have failed (except for the current one which is slipping).

I was about to say - 3 in 2,000 miles - that's not the clutch's fault!
