Change alternator Citroen BX14

Post by The BX User »

Hello everyone,

I drive a Citroen BX 14 TGE from 1989 with 75 hp (HSN 3001, TSN 479). My alternator no longer charges, so I have already ordered a new one and a new V-belt. However, I am unsure about the replacement and need your support.

How I would proceed now:

- disconnect the battery

- slacken the V-belt: Turned clockwise with a 15mm box wrench to release tension.

- Remove the V-belt: Fix the belt tensioner with a 3 mm nail.

- Loosen the alternator: Loosen the lower screw with an 18mm Allen key.

- Disconnect the cables: Remove the connections B+ with a 13 mm socket and D+ with an 8 mm socket.

- Remove the alternator

Questions for you:

Is this procedure correct?

Are there any special features I need to be aware of, especially on models with air conditioning?

Does the hydraulic pump have to be removed, or can the alternator be replaced without removing the pump?

Are there any specific tips or tricks that will make the replacement easier?

I would be very grateful for your support and advice.

Best regards
