Unfortunately not. I’ve spent half of the year in here so far. The doctors keep emphasising ‘it’s a really serious injury’, but I don’t know what it means for the long term.

Really sorry to hear that you are hospitalised David. It must be very frustrating for you being immobilised for that length of time. It sounds like you wont be needing your BX for some time yet.
I have had a couple of short spells in hospital in the last year or two but nothing like your situation. Hope you get some improvement soon.
Bon courage.

Thanks for the well wishes! I didn’t realise you were in hospital, I hope that you’re alright now & it wasn’t anything too serious. I’m hoping that they discharge me soon, but I won’t magically heal for months to come.

In the meantime, I’ve been contemplating a TD engine again for the BX. As I posted a few weeks ago, I might need to put an auto box in it anyway, even if temporarily, so I’m wondering if I should have a play around with it. Sadly, I might lose the 4x4 drive with an auto box, but at least I’d be able to drive it. Assuming I can change major components from a wheelchair!

There doesn’t seem to be many TD engines for sale at the moment though, less so if they’re the 1.9. Is there much power difference between the 1.7TD & 1.9TD?

1.7 versus 1.9 the BHP is the same-ish for both but the 1.9 has more useful torque. But you will need to put a 1.7 cam in to get the HP pump drive.
I can't see its a viable job though until you are more mobile again.
