Bit of a bummer

Been out this afternoon looking at an XM 2ltr auto, lovely engine and car was in really nice condition, my mate bought it but in reality it's worth more in bits than is we were to put it back on the road. Is there an XM club/forum?

Then we called at a scrap yard to be greeted in the entrance by the sight of a tidy L reg Red TXD estate

what makes this even worse is, this is the same car that the **** who owned it was supposed to be selling it to me to put back on the road for the honourable member for Chester.

He's even left the CD player in, what a tit.

We asked if we could buy it out, the answer of course was yes, it'd only been driven in yesterday. However they told us, they have someone who buys all there old Citroens. (of course they do, that's why the yard is full of Xantias) so if we want it, it's £200.

Now I know they're in business to make money, but if you drive a car into the yard, they'll take it off your hands for nothing.

A very unhappy end to what's been quite an unpleasant year.

P.S. This won't stop me going back on Tuesday morning to have another go.

In which case, alas, it is worth what they're asking for it but that doesn't make it any more palatable. Can't be Silverlake though. They'd want a four figure sum!

What a arse, I was in a similar situation albeit many years ago over a Mk2 Granada 2.0GL which a guy had literlly that minute driven in, It was a local car in good nick I had seen for sale and the chap was asking too much money for it so it didnt sell. He got fed up and took it to the scrappers wo gave him £30 for it I think (even thought it was MOTed). I asked to buy it and they said yes fine £100 they wanted, £70 profit for doing nothing (in 1992), but they had the logbook keys etc and the guy whos car it was was still there and was rather taken aback by there greed and asked to unravel the deal so he could sell it me instead, you can imagine the reply

Needless to say I told them no and whenI went there again months later it has been crushed.

Not a nice situation mate. I suppose as far as the scrappy is concerned it's worth £x in scrap so if he gave it to you he's giving away the scrap value too. What would you of paid the **** had he kept his promise of 1st refusal to you?

£60 agreed scrap value, which is £60 more than the scrappy gave him for it. I didn't get chance to go today, very busy at work 1st day back, but I'll be there tomorrow.

TBH I think it's destined for the crusher. His old man who works the yard at weekends said he wanted £200 for it.

I dont get it, how much is that car worth if it gets scrapped to the scrapper? surely its in his interests to sell u the car for a bit of extra profit over & above the scrap value & he might get your custom & other bods u would be recommending him to? Might be worth trying that tack & as Bandit has suggested flash the cash......

Otherwise what a waste......

A waste indeed. I've been back today but they're not budging so I'm affraid thats it. Very sad to see one of my old cars go for scrap, especially as Iknow there's nowt wrong with it.

Also, to make matters worse, I've remembered tonight, that 2 years ago I fitted BRAND NEW rear cylinders to this car, cost £60+vat each. I suppose I'll have to go back and loosen the rear spheres whilst the engines still in and running in order to get these off later.

Well it's in the yard now

This really hurts me, seeing one of my old cars in the yard. I know they all have to go sometime, but this ones time hadn't come. There was nothing wrong with it.

Well there is now.

I've arranged to go back this week, they're going to lift it for me to get the rear cylinders off, I may get the arms as well. I know they're good as I fitted them

All spheres were good, even the rear ones are still green.

If anyone else wants anything, it has a perfect metal bonnet, good bumpers, 3 perfect doors, tailgate, gas struts etc etc etc.

it's a red one and if memory serves, it was EJXMR.
