Another "A" BX MK1 has come to light!

As i understand, this is a 1 owner,"given up driving" A reg BX 16TRS in beige! and in good condition,
when i get more details i will pass them on,just to say its just been saved from scrap!

Similar story to the one off ebay in cornwall few weeks back. That'll hopefully be in my custody in just over a week..

perhaps some Grandad out there has got too rickety to steer his Mk.1 estate. There has to be one out there somewhere, though Grandads usually went for the saloon, not requiring a 'workhorse', just a nice soft cruise down the post office to get the pension..

Latest news regarding this BX!!
im told it has 35,000 miles on the clock, and is in very good order,
HOWEVER!!
The scrap yard that has the BX has said they will not sell the car,2 CCC have been on the case, the yard said "£250 for all the parts you want, but the shell will be crushed!" reply "its not the parts we want, but the car itself!"
As it stands,the yard will, for what ever reason,not sell the car,instead have now been convinced not to beak it,and have moved it into one of there garages,so, its safe, at the moment, why they won't sell the car is anyone's guss,

I'm guessing it is because they will have registered it as scrap on the V5,
not sure how the law stands on reregistering in these cases.

There has been a similar case regarding a Series one Rover SD1... Was traded in at a dealer and sent for scrap. The yard sold it to someone, now the the DVLA won't let him tax it.

Same thing, totally immaculate car, with 30,000 miles on the clock.

Something will be done about this...

It really shouldn't be that difficult with the DVLA.

Two years or so ago, I acquired an old Merc 308D freezer van from a local butcher. When I acquired the thing, the guy couldn't find the V5C, and like an idiot I left it ages and didn't see him about it until I had patched the thing up and was wanting it on he road, by which time the DVLA had been on to him. and he had sent the logbook off declaring it as scraped.

I telephoned the DVLA, explained the situation, and after filling out a form V62 got another V5C,

My last Dyane had been off the road for *many* years and I got it from the scrapyard with neither a V5 nor number plates. Explained the situation, and after they inspected the car to check the numbers they issued me a V5C. The problem here isn't the DVLA, but rather the bloody mindedness of the scrap yard, unless that is the car has been in a minor accident and written off as category A or B...

Yeah, it could be applied for and got from the DVLA alright. If the scrapyard have moved it to a 'safe shed' my guess is that they think it's worth a fortune now because someone's enquired about it and convinced them not to break it.
I bet they'd sell it if someone offered a large amount for it and I also bet that's exactly what they're holding on to it for. There was a local scrappy (now closed) who used to do exactly the same.
If they won't sell it let them break and crush it: they haven't got a cat in hell's chance of seeing anywhere even remotely close to £250 for it and the price of scrap has dropped dramatically. Bollocks to 'em, there will be others.

If that's the case you could speak to the scrappy again and attempt to 'devalue' the car by saying something like "nah, nasty Mk.1 anyway, not a GTi or TD" or " no point in breaking it as noone will need Mk1 bits since there's none left on the road.

Might work?

MK1s are very rare and a A reg one even more so, I drove 280 miles round trip to get spares for the GT last year! so if chris can rescue this one its worth doing.

Seriously it's probably not worth mentioning it full stop. If they say it's not for sale, it's not for sale so unless someone wants parts off it (which they probably won't sell now anyway because they will think it's worth a fortune) I'd leave it well alone.
I'd suggest someone calls them one last time, asks them how much they want for it cash and if they say it's not for sale just hang the phone up and move on.
Tim, the longer you keep biggging the car up the more they will feel less inclined to break it or sell it as a whole for a sensible price. This part of the forum is not hiddent to non-members and it's a known fact scrapyard owners frequent car forums to value stuff.
As I said they've already said it isn't for sale so I don't see the point of getting concerned about it. Let them store it or crush it or break it for parts, there are more out there.

It's worth a go, but I wouldn't hold too much hope of getting it.

They may have already issued the certificate of destruction. In which case yes it's sad but never mind. These things happen all the time.
