Well done Phil looks better than the original IMHO.

Very nicely done Phil!

I have to say though, I do prefer the original  Perhaps if the rear doors were different it would work for me better; I find the still-angled C-pillar problematic. Would be a cracking van tho!

I think the thing would be to have a new rear door of course with a more upright trailing edge. The rendering I've done has not lengthened the original estate at all, I simply reduced the tailgate upper half's angle. I think so long (as here) the pillars were all black and the rear window was tinted it wouldn't be too bad. The estate as it is sort of emphasises the C pillar angle rather than 'ignore' it. I've seen other cars that have an angled pillar and a straight back e.g. the Freelander 3-door etc.

An interesting exercise, purely academic though! :D

Nah, surely now you have created an image of your perfect car, perhaps you should get a book out of the library on coach-building and now create a very unique BX... :D

I've got to say, there's way too much glass on show, it looks like an aquarium on wheels

I didn't tackle that issue. I imagine you could thicken the rear pillar.

It's very Volvo-like now. :?

Theres no upright structure for the tail gate to close on to at present is there? It will need that for rigidity of body shell.

I don't think you need to worry about that too much. After all, Phil's picture is purely 2 dimensional, therefore will have no structural rigidity whatsoever...

Surely that market was taken by the W124 Estate? (along with its citroen derived self-levelling at the back.)
I guess MB thought so, but the W124 estate is a bit big. I don't know why, but I have always admired the 190...[/quote]

Then you, my friend, have taste! I have both, a 190E and a 200T and the 200T is bloody huge. Slowing it down requires patience, religious beliefs and luck. Mind you so does trying to build up speed but thata's another thing.

I like that Citroen estate and it seems to have a few cool things going on such as the seats in the boot, the dashboard and those funky back lights. I certainly wouldn't pay that much for it though.
Vauxhall apologist.
