blinker failure

my indicators are becoming increasingly sporadic, leading to a reacquaintance with the finer points of hand signalling in the highway code. gets quite chilly with the window down in this weather!

symptoms: after a while of driving (especially with headlights on, tho that may be coincidence), indicators sometimes don't come on at all, or if they do, pulse irregularly. hazard lights simply don't work during the problem, which then goes away as suddenly as it arrives.

what's this then - earths? or switch? or flasher controller thing (assume that's in/near the fusebox)?

over to the experts...

did this fault start after useing your hazard flashers, if so its you hazard flasher switch playing up,

next time it happens try flicking the H/F switch on and off a couple of times,

In my case way back when the hazards switch had totally failed on a cold morning and took out the trafficators. You CAN pull the switch out from binacle without destroying the switch, but its difficult. However if you simply pull the front off the swtich, then pull the body out you should be able to fit a replacement switch and plug it back in.

Out of interest, what colour is the switch? I ask because i haven't yet had to replace a black switch and wonder if they come from a different manufacturer.

Relay

I would suggest looking at replacing the relay in the fusebox.

Have you ever seen a flasher relay fail on a BX? I've never ever seen or had one fail, but i guess it could be a temperate thing?

Yes twice, once in the UK and Once in NZ. Its a BX anything is possible!

I've got an intermitten indicator fault, sometimes it happens & other times it doesnt. There is a squaking sound followed by the flasher noise speeding up & slowing down. Is this the relay? If it is, what does it look like?

with fuse box open, indicators on just feel the relays to determin which is the flasher can/relay,

i had an eary BX years ago which every now and then i would have to wigle the flasher/relay can to stop exactly the same symtons MULLEY is getting,

so in that case i think its down to fuse box conection's

Ive had this happen, and as mentioned the hazard switch was to blame, worth changing that first as its a quick and easy fix.

In fact I need one for the TZI as thats playing up.

Italian wiring no? So i guess not a surprise that the relays give up, i shall look forward to it happening.

Is the flasher relay not normally the tallest relay in the middle of the green relays? I've seen blue ones and grey ones but i suppose they could be any colour.

Third relay from the left IIRC.
It's the one that looks like it has a leg missing. Only it hasn't...
