WANTED: wheel bolts for Speedlines
Hi all,
I picked up a set of Speedlines (5.5J) a while ago without realising I'd need different wheel bolts for them versus the original steelies so I'm on the lookout for a set of 16 bolts please.
Drop me a PM if you have any available.
Many thanks,
Phil

Re: WANTED: wheel bolts for Speedlines
Also bear in mind that unless you got the special spare wheel too, you'll need to keep an original set of bolts in the car in case you get a puncture. I was caught out by that when I bought my set of Speelines Took me years to get a correct spare!

Re: WANTED: wheel bolts for Speedlines
^ Now you would think that that would be the kind of thing that would catch me out - but infact the last time I had a puncture I had a spare set of steely bolts in the car. Sometimes I even impress myself.

Re: WANTED: wheel bolts for Speedlines
I'm now resigned to the fact that I'm going to get a puncture, as I sat here and thought to myself "I've never had a puncture in the BX", so give it a while and I'll let you know how I get on

Re: WANTED: wheel bolts for Speedlines
I reckon on a puncture every 20k or so. Honda reckon the UK average is 60k so give you a foam can (Jazz), well that does not work very well if you have a 2" tear in the side wall!. Not sure why I get so many, might be nails from the raft of horses (dropped from shoes) that enjoy their walks down the local roads. Also a lot of the roads are single track with passing places and often you have to go on the grass/verge etc to avoid a head on with some idiot doing 40+ when 25 is a safe speed. Last couple were even sliding sideways a bit with the ABS locking up!, interesting.... Trouble is the fly tipping can leave 'stuff' on the said verge/passing place including nails and screws.
In London it was similar with the bike but screws from buiding sites were the main culprits. There was the time I had a tube replaced and it punctured 4k later as the wrong size tube had been fitted, whilst sweeping off the M3 at 70....and the front blow out with a 19" tube in 18" wheel....at 80....no wonder I ended up fitting my own tyres and tubes.

Re: WANTED: wheel bolts for Speedlines
There is though, an issue of the bolt length as there are at least 2 types. Are these the longer bolts as needed by the BX Alloys?citronut wrote:here is price and part No. from citroen

i dont know but it is the only wheel bolt showing for BX alloys, and it does not give the bolt length, but just its diameter and thread pitchWay2go wrote:

I don't why 'Way2go' has Muddied the water , as this has been covered many times (Even with 'W2g' posting in one particular thread which I've linked up below) which is the most clearest one on this subject and the importance of using the correct 'Stud-bolts' - Click on image for link to thread
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Also just to confirm the length of the 'Stud-bolt' = 46mm (From under the head, rather than the washer) !
The /\ quote from THIS thread for ref.RxBX wrote:........
That's not quite true, as the same stud-bolt on all Speed-line alloys fitted to the BX TZD/GTi & 16v (5-1/2" J and 6"J) were also fitted to the early Xantia Exclusive models which also had the identical length of bolt of 46mm (That being measured from under the head rather than under the washer) !
However when the very late XM's were coming of the production line, the alloys were change from 'Monte-Carlo' to 'Ville de Monte-Carlo' and 'Etoile' to 'New Etoile' when the stud-bolt length reduced in length to 42mm in length (again measured from under head) this was to compensate for the revised/thinner section thru' the alloy wheel/hub, see THIS PDF for more info page's 9 and 10 of the brochure (11 & 12 of 14 on the thumbnails).
IIRC this revision also applied to the later Xantia range/styles which sported alloy wheels, but the BX Speed-line's stud-bolts have always been 46mm in length !
Mat F, surely a 'Sticky' (Or some book marks to the threads /\ in the 'Technical FAQ & Mod's' section) is needed on the 'Stud-bolt' issue so as not to have folk keep repeating info on this subject which is of great importance due to the safety issues as 'Boxwolf' and others have found out by using the incorrect ones (Usually from Pug fitments) !

Re: WANTED: wheel bolts for Speedlines
Only just seen this properly (still no laptop ) but I'm not sure how W2G has "muddied the water"? A part number had been posted, and the question was asked whether this corresponded to the longer bolts required by the BX Speedlines. To anyone who may not have known, their attention had been drawn to the fact there are two similar (apart from the length) bolts out there.Way2go wrote:There is though, an issue of the bolt length as there are at least 2 types. You could argue that pretty much every technical question imaginable has been asked about the BX, so everything should be covered by using the search function. But it's not a perfect tool, and without the live 'chat' IMO the forum would become a stale and dull place.
I may be in a minority here, but I don't believe that anyone should be dissuaded from seeking clarification. I can't find anywhere on the forum where the length of part no. 96070416 has been confirmed as being 46 mm, although as it appears they're the only ones listed for the BX then we can safely assume this.
