European breakdown cover arranged with the RAC for the week, not cheap at £99 but £22 cheaper than the website with some haggling.

I'm more bothered about having the car repatriated home in an accident or major fault which this covers.

Have you heard about this French law? Just seen in a news item:

"In France, although the law imposing an 11 euro fine has been postponed indefinitely, you are legally required to carry an unused self-test breathalyser in your vehicle."

For those newbies, I would suggest taking a few spares with you that are RHD specific, ie clutch and throttle cables which I have packed in the boot of the GT, also HP pump and alternator belts, spare LHM/Coolant and oil.

Also check your tyres and brakes. (mine are 10 years old and although in good order I will be fitting new ones)

If you MOT is due soonish it may be worth having it done beforehand and remember to keep a copy of your insurance, logbook etc with you in case you get stopped.

Good advice. And don't forget mandatory - and recommended - safety equipment.
Warning triangle, bulb kit, hi-vis vests for all (in the cabin), at least two in-date NF-labelled alco-testers, headlight beam convertors, GB sticker...

...plus; first aid kit, spare specs if you wear them, sunglasses, pen and paper, phrase book, car and driver documentation, torch and fire extinguisher.

In the last couple of years, I have been stopped 4 times in France for random breath tests or documentation checks, and never have I been asked to produce a breathalyser. If you don't already have them I wouldn't bother, hardly any French drivers do.

And have a credit card ready for the Autoroute toll machines, there are very few manned booths remaining.

It is mate, being different model years they have quite a few differences, mainly the interior colour's and side-stripes, and of course I didn't get the funky computer, although my car was ordered with tinted windows and sunblind's and a sunroof was standard by that time too which helps with the all black rather gloomy interior,

Mine has too much light inside! Gets very hot when the sun is shining so could definatley done with tinted windows, the wool tweed seats don't help you keep cool either lol. I hoped that now the speedo is working my trip computer would be functional, it still doesn't seem to have a speed input so may have a fiddle at the computer end when I look at the radio next weekend.

Mine is just over 60,000, maybe 62 or 64? Can't remember now what it is.

Ive spoken to Phil on FB and he understands that at this time, with the car and finances as they are I can't risk anything happening or going wrong. And if Im honest, my confidence in her at the moment is rock bottom. She's ok driving the odd mile round town but there is now the constant fear of cooling/over heating issues at the back of my mind as well as other issues that need sorting before she's up for hauling miles.

I had intended to make a go at getting to the Northern Rally this weekend but that is off the cards till Im happy with the car again.
