Smell of fuel coming from the back of my BX

Post by Jugostran »

Hello everyone!
I guess this also serves as an introduction. So hey, I am a recent (well, 6 month recent) Citroën BX owner from Serbia. I am slowly working on making my car road trip worthy. However, I am sort of stuck. The issue is that there is a petrol smell (or multiple) coming from the back of the car. One is the sort of burnt petrol smell coming from the exhaust. The second is an unburnt petrol smell that I smell on occasion when working under the front of the car. Any help tracking down these would be of great help. My mechanic sort of agrees that one of the culprits could be the petrol evap line. Otherwise, he is quite clueless (to be fair, so am I).
So, some more details. The car is a 1989 BX 16 TRS with the Weber carburetor (the one with the automatic choke - though this seems to be working). The previous owner stated that he rebuilt the carburetor.
So again, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers!
Edit - there is no smoke coming from the exhaust, but, there is a lot of pressure at the tailpipe (though I am pretty sure this is normal)
Proudly daily driving a 1989 BX 16 TRS since 2021
