wanted - parcel shelf

Post by southside »

I just got a lovely 1990 14RE. So lovely that Im going to try and keep it original - or at least have the original parts available for when I eventually part with it. Its done VERY few miles in the past 10 years so there will be a fair amount to keep an eye on as I intend to use this as a daily(ish) driver.
Despite its general rust-free loveliness, the sound system is let down by having only two small speakers in the front doors - non-factory but looks 100% original. But I am not about to carve up a pristine parcel shelf to fit my big speakers in the back - and I want to fit an eye-level LED brake light.

So who has a scruffy parcel shelf they will part with? Cos I want my sounds and I'd prefer nobody runs into the back of me either.

Speakers in parcel shelf is just wrong. Fit a quality pair in the front doors it's all you need or some flat speakers under the front seats.
Anyway a bx14 is a good choice and yours will have the later TU engine they're a good little hack and so basic there's nothing to go wrong.

I'm confused - I thought a 1990 1360cc was a K1G engine, thats what the Haynes manual implies...

I have previously only ever owned diesel BXs Xantias, C5s and various Peugeots. I know my XUD engines but not TUs. Son#1 has had the engine out of his 1992 AX GT sitting in the corner of the garage for some years now and done nothing with it. So I got to wondering if the head and carbs might fit..... and I can keep the original bits to refit if I ever part with it.

Sadly my Sony 6" elliptical speakers are just too tall to fit under the seats and too big to go in the doors without major work. So they either go in the parcel shelf or I try to mount them in the pockets above the rear wheels.

K1G is just a TU by another name - I think PSA hadn't quite figured out a scheme for naming the variants of the TU family at the time.

. My thought was mk2 87/88>>14s has the TU as opposed to the earlier 150c slant back (suitcase) I may be corrected.

They do, the first year production mk2s still used the Suitcase engines as the AX hadn't been released yet. From 1988 onwards they had TUs fitted.

IIRC I do have one in storage. With the speaker situation, the owner fitted their own stereo and Citroen provided the wiring. I guess it was for cheapness.

I had a 1988 1.4 - it was registered in April I believe. It had the 150c leaded petrol engine. The change to the TU unleaded unit began in October 1988, so there may be a few strays that dealers held after that date. Note the 1.6/9 was already unleaded which was part of the push for the 1.4 unleaded unit.
Anyway the TU is a better unit though my 150c did 175k, you should easily beat that with a TU.
May have a spare parcel shelf in black if required.

My 1st bx was a mk1 14re with the 150c 4sp box it finally rattled itself to death at around 140k, we towed it to the scrap yard bottomed out and using the handbrake where it joined up with many other not very old broken bx's on the stack (circa early 1990s) I think every scrapyard had a good selection of them at the time.
On the flip side about a year after I brought a 16rs estate from same scrapyard for £100 cos the hyd pump was knackered and run that for a few years to 199k.

Might I add if you put speakers in the parcel shelf your tailgate struts will no longer hold the boot open due to the extra weight, also fitting speakers into the boot cubby holes is also a no no unless you build some sort of box within the space, these are just where the c pillar vents are and if don't enclose them you will sound like an ice cream van playing its merry tunes.
